a vital service and should be overhauled to serve us better and it shouldn’t be expected to turn a profit.

Well said, but they’re oblivious to change even when failing miserably. They don’t try to address any issues and put the blame on employees as well as whatever takes the focus away from the real problem!

Cannot remember the last time we got mail on a Monday. Mail used to deliver about the same time 6 days a week. Now it could be noon one day and 9PM the next day (except Mondays) …

We have moved almost ALL of our billing to on-line (web) only. Agree with BearCat … almost always pass by the recycle bin and drop of 99% off the mail before entering the house.

I have to wonder those companies paying for mail advertising … do they know the response rate and secured business vs. mailer costs ?? Would sure hope so.

Even if your mail isn’t delivered, it’s sitting at the local post office for you. Some people rely on the mail for things like prescription drugs. Especially residents in rural communities.

And even though the USPS is technically a federal agency, it is not supposed to rely on taxpayer funds. It is supposed to be a self-sustaining operation. They’ve had to be bailed out for years now. Congress is faced with the annual issue of either bailing them out, or allowing them to fold like a deck of cards.

Well we’re seeing the result of them trying to run it like a corporation and how is that working out? Again, it needs an overhaul to find it identity but it should not be expected to turn a profit or even be expect to be fully self sustaining. We’re going to pay for it either way so you might as well make sure it serves the people first.

I agree, but fixing it will take an act of god at this point. It would require bipartisan legislation from Congress.

Just maybe the federal government should of kept there grubby little fingers out of the postal services business to start out with .

I’m old enough to remember when the postal service just chugged right along.

The postal service IS part of the federal government. They are part of the executive branch, although they they are technically not supposed to be taxpayer funded.

If they hadn’t received bail out after bail out after bail out, they would literally not exist anymore.

I am perfectly fine with the USPS delivering two days a week. Just pick a couple days and deliver on a regular and timely basis. No exceptions.

More important and/or express mail can be delivered separately … just like that USPS truck you see zipping around neighborhoods delivering Amazon packages (sometimes on Sundays no less).

usps can go the way of t-rex 99% junk mail that hits the recycling bin. All the important stuff comes via email for bills fedex, ups and the occasional dhl. Its no longer an efficient way of communication.

We get it every day but Sunday in Saint Paul, though I wouldn’t be bothered if it was half that.

Tough to get the help. That’s the answer for the original post. I’m not a USPS spokesperson but that’s kinda the jist of it. Lots of PO sit with vacant routes. Just how it is.

Pay and benefits are decent. Work is decent. Depends I’m sure what craft your in?

Yes being an RCA (rural carrier associate) is tough. Been there and done that. I also see the struggles they go through. Tough work being an RCA. Rewards come at the end when full time.
Very little benefits being an RCA.

6 day a week delivery is federally mandated. Complain all you want, it’s not going away.

If anyone is looking for a partime gig in Fountain City, send me a message. I would like a Saturday off. waytogo

IF (a big word for 2 letters) the USPS was run like a business, postage would be $1.00 per piece and it would equate to 1 of 2 things. It would stop junk mail and bankrupt the postal service… or it would increase costs of all goods and services and the USPS would be profitable.

Junk mail gets discounted bulk mailing rates ?? So they pay less to send all that crap ?

That bulk – junk mail … Can’t return to sender either ??

WASHINGTON — The United States Postal Service announced on Tuesday that it planned to buy at least 66,000 electric vehicles by 2028, creating one of the largest battery-powered fleets in the nation and resolving a long-running dispute with the Biden administration over how quickly the agency should clean up its fleet of iconic white, red and blue mail trucks.

The post office said it would invest $9.6 billion over the next six years to refurbish its aging mail delivery fleet. That includes buying 60,000 delivery vehicles from Oshkosh Defense, a Wisconsin-based company that manufactures military vehicles, of which at least 45,000 will be electric battery-powered. The agency also plans to buy at least 21,000 additional electric vehicles from other manufacturers and intends to stop buying gas-powered delivery trucks altogether after 2026.
