Great White North

Made it up to the Great White North with Hank the Crank, and friends Jim and Father Jim this week. As the sun came up, so did the wind, which made things kinda interesting at times. Never did measure the ice, but I’d say most of it was 5-6, maybe 7″. As the day went on, we saw more and more open water creep across the lake, and I wonder how much of all that affected the fishing. It was kinda slow, with quite a few fish taking the bait only to spit the hook after doing so. A few perch were also jigged up here and there. Here were a few of the fish from the day, including Father Jim’s fish of the day at 29″. Real nice fish with great color. Next time I’ll bring some mustard and horseradish for those dogs! Thanks for taking me, guys!

Hey Brian, nice to see someone post something here. Had to have been a fun day for you and the guys. Have only been on the ice twice so far this year and both times we ended up fishing at Pibel. The ice there is a good 6″ and the 10 pan fish limit is easily filled.

In past years we have fished Lake Erickson, but this summers flood waters took out the dam and what was a nice icefishing destination now is a goner. Going to have to find new water soon.

Keep bringing those pictures and reports.

    Thanks Jorg.

I thought Pibel lost its water too? Maybe I heard wrong….

Don’t know when I’ll make it back out on the ice, I’m averaging about one trip a year, but somehow I think this year I’ll make it out a few more times.

Pibel flooded last summer, water washed over the dam. There was some concern that the whole thing might go, but it did not. Still fish there, still a good place to go fishing!

Thanks for the clarification. It’s quite a drive for me to that lake. Only reason I know where it is, is because on my way to L&C 3 or so years ago, I saw a sign on the highway that said something about a lake, so I stopped to check it out. Pretty nice area.

Might have to check it out again once we get good ice on L&C.
