Talked to a guy this morning and he said that he was sure that it was open when he looked back that way yesterday and he said that the wind was really breaking the lake up yesterday. Hope that helps

The dam is not open but there is a lot more open water this morning, after that wind yesterday, than there was. It will still take some time to get the rest of the ice off the dam. Sounds like some 60’s in the forecast next week so that will help out a lot!!

I don’t think it will be yet, but that is just my opinion. Ben is up at the marina off and on right now, so give him a call in a couple of days and see what it’s doing

The bite should be on!! I was up there a couple of years ago litterly the day the ice was off and the bite was great that day. Usually this time of year you want a few consecutive days of nice weather to really get them going.

Ben is there anywhere in ne where u can buy the ring worms? What colors would be best at sherman? Will any of the bait shops be open to get minnows?

Scheels in Lincoln should have a good assortment of Precision H2O jigs and draggin jigs withing the next week or so. Bass Pro in Council Bluffs has the H2O jigs too. The BfishN Tackle plastics are a little harder to find right now in this part of the country. I’m hoping that will soon change. I would order them online if I was you. BfishN Tackle Online orders usually show up in less than a week as long as they have the colors you want in stock.

If I had to choose my three favorite colors at Sherman they would be Firecracker Chartreuse tail, Catalpa Charteuse tail, and Stewarts Pro Blue. With all the work they have done up there the water clarity has greatly improved so the more natural colors like the Pro Blue may see a little more action.

If there is one color to fish at Sherman it is Cotton Candy!!!!!!!!! There is no other color that has produced at Sherman for me like C.C.R.W on a 3/16th ounce orange tiger glow eye H2O jig.

I would guess that there will be some males up on the dam next weekend, but I would be REALLY surprised if there is any real spawning action going on yet. IMO, the 28th will be the first weekend that a person might be able to get onto a real spawn bite.

Now you have two totally different points of view from Ben and myself, so I hope it is all as clear as mud(sherman) . You could just do like I did and buy every color of ringworm and H2O jigs and go fishing both weekends and we both may be right

Trade Winds is not opening back up for the seaso until April 3rd so you won’t be able to pick up any minnows there. As for depth, there will be some males that will be on the dam next weekend and it is going to depend on the weather as far as where the fish will be locating. There will be shallow fish in the morning and I would guess that they will gradually move down the rocks as the day goes on. As for day or night, I don’t fish the rocks at night so as to make sure that I am not picking on females so I can’t give you any information on the night bite. The day bite is always better early in the morning and just before sundown, but fish can be picked up all day long if you really work at it. In fact, there are some days where a limit of males can be picked up out of 2′ of water in the middle of the afternoon, Ryan Obermeier & John Schroeder i’m sure will attest to that

Zach thanks for the help. I really appreciate all your help. Personally I’ve never fished sherman before and the guy I’m goin with has fished it some but not a lot. The other bait shop in Loop City is open and has minnows so we will be able to get minnows. We’ve got some different things we are going to try. We are goin to try pitching some jigs into the rocks with gulp minnows and pitching some jigs into rocks with minnows. We are also goin to try trolling the face of the damn with rigs and minnows. Also going to try trolling the face of the damn with crankbaits. Any other tips guys on things to try. What crankbaits work best at sherman this time of year? Do you think it would be a good idea or not to try casting cranks into the face of the damn? Also do you guys think it would be a good idea to try the vertical jigging bite? Thanks again guys for the help.

We drove over the dam again the other day and it looks still froze. Some open water up the lake further. Maybe the next few days will open her up. Or you could throw in your sledge hammer like walleye4 did.

Hey, when you put the hurt on some fish like we did that day, busting ICE for 4 hrs is well worth it!
