Fairly lax finals week for me this week in Lincoln so I made my way out to Central NE to do some walleye fishing. Fished the canal monday evening and picked up 3 keepers in an hour and a half. I tried some bigger water on Tuesday and was able to get two keepers by 7 am (started at 6). Fished there for another couple of hours and caught zero, so I went back to the canal and was able to scrounge a limit of eyes by 11 am. I kept fishing until 3:30 or so and never caught another fish. The fish that I did catch were in 7 – 14 feet of water and the water temps ranged from 53 to 57 depending on the time of day and location on the lake and canal. I was hoping that the eyes would have been moved up a little better on the flats than they were. I think the cold weather this year has everything ta bit behind schedule. I went up north on Wednesday to try my luck there for some walleye. Fished from 6 am until 11 with only a few bites and no fish. Decided to abandon the walleye fishing and try my luck for some white bass. That worked out much better as I caught at least 80 before I decided to call it quits for the day. I will be doing some serious fishing most of next week for some walleyes before work starts on the 19th. Hopefully the eyes decide to start biting a little more consistantly up on the flats. I think any day now the walleyes are really going to turn on and I can’t wait to get in on some really good action.
