    Here is some updated information from the Nebraska Walleye Trails first tournament of the year

    John Pursley & Pat Shaw win $4,000 and the First NWT Tournament of the Year–Rose Placzek Memorial

    John Pursley and Pat Shaw of Aurora, Nebraska captured the first Nebraska Walleye Trail Circuit victory of the year on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Sherman Reservoir. The duo cashed in $4000 for the win as they produced a two day tournament weight of 25.10 pounds for eight fish. The pattern used for the winners was lindy rigging, and they concentrated on fishing the trail 8 and mud point areas for their fish. When asked about their win they answered “It was a nice tournament to win with the big payouts. It was a tight race for the top spot and we knew several teams were only one big bite away from having a chance to win it. The Rose has always been one of our favorite tournaments to fish and is always an awesome tournament.”

    Second place and $3300 went to the team of James Miller and Jason Cooper from North Platte, Nebraska weighing in at 24.10 pounds for seven fish.

    Third place went to Todd Weber and Caleb Quinn of Lincoln, Nebraska as they won $2500 for their 18.72 pounds over the two days.

    Fourth place and $1500 went to Brian Regelin of Cozad, Nebraska and Brett Vinzant of Bertrand, Nebraska with 17.84 pounds. They also won the big fish pot with a 9.14 pound walleye, giving their team a $530 bonus and a total payday of $2030.

    Fifth place and $1000 went to Zachary Fries and Kenneth Roy Jr. Their team also pocketed a $200 bonus courtesy of The Boat Dock in Grand Island, Nebraska, for being the top placing team fishing out of a Boat Dock purchased boat, giving them a $1200 total payday.

    Sixth place went to Greg Colman and Fred VanLaningham. Their team was award $750 for their 16.80 total pounds of walleye.
    Seventh place and $350 went to Brad Johnson and Mitch Johnson for their 16.44 pounds of fish.

    Several other teams entered the Sherman tournament in the hunt for “TEAM OF THE YEAR” points and cash prizes at the end of the season- rounding out the top ten were: 8th- Ted Robinson and Dave Sintek, 9th-Brian Brinkman and James Beisner, and 10th-Ryan Obermeir and John Schroeder. 41 teams put themselves in good position for the end of the season awards by weighing in fish and earning quality points.     The team of Mike Unger and Jim Block won the $300 Ranger Cup bonus for their finish as the top placing team fishing out a Ranger Boat. (See the Photos link for all photos)

    In all, $14,430 was paid out to the top teams in cash prizes. The fishing was great with 125 fish caught, and over 410 pounds of walleyes brought to the scales by the 53 participating teams. Three qualifying tournaments remain on the schedule before the Championship in August. The next stop for the Nebraska Walleye Trail is BIG MAC on May 17th and 18th.
