I took the Family out the lake on Sun. It was a bit windy, but the temps warmed up nicely. We had the intention of chasing some white bass for some tasty kabobs that day.

Shortly after putting the boat in the water I noticed some action on top. I asked the wife if she that, she said yeah probably just some carp though. I that was no carp!! So we headed towards the scene of the crime. I pitched a lure just above a channel break and on the second twitch my rod was about pulled out of my hands. Was not expecting that kind of ferocious strike at all. First thought was big Wiper. Was not to be. Turned out to be a nice little 26″ northern. I thought to myself hmmm the wind is blowing pretty steady into these bays maybe they are worth some checking into. It old the wife we were going to check this out. About 5 casts later same thing another pike about 24″. Now this has my sons attentions who is asking me to tie a lure on for him so he can get into the action. We continued to fish and check back bays. It took my son a little while but he ended up getting the hang of things and ended up with this 26incher.

I got a hook in the hand and the pike got a piece of my finger. i told my told my son that we had to work on our boatside toothyfish landing communication skills..

All in all we boated slighlty better than 20 pike on sunday, Had a few get away, but had one great time.. Most fish were between 23″-28″. We had a few short 18″ hammerhandles and one that went 32″. All were returned to grow up and swim again. Although we did not catch any of the giants that I know are in there we had a great time….

After all that action on Sunday. The wife and I decided to get out again on Tues. So I turned of the Leash and away we went. Tues was a bit slower than sunday. There was virtually no wind and the pike had really scattered. We found them out on the main lake points in stead of the back of the bays. We boated 9 pike and a couple of 15″ LMB. Average size was the same class as on Sun. Still hard fighting fun..

The water was very clear on both days. On tues we with the calm there were spots you could see 10-12 ft down very easily. Water temps were 52.3-57-8 depending on where you were on the lake..

    Chris
