Just got back and am still getting warm from a few hours out on the ice this afternoon. It was only a few hours because a few of my buddies told me they had access to a private pit for today only, so I better get out there, and that wasn’t until 4, but I decided to go since it wasn’t far from the house. The deepest we could find was only 10 FOW, but there were fish there, according to the flasher. Turns out they wanted waxworms, which I had on the treble of my jiggin Rapala. Everyone else was using teardrops with waxies, with bobbers. I got a small LMB and a hybrid sunfish, and some of the other 4 caught a few LMB and Jeremy got a real nice gill. Not too bad for a few hours work.

I finally tried out my Reel Weeds for the first time, and I think we probably needed more time to really test their effectiveness, but they did seem to keep fish in the area, even though I only had two of the 5 strings out. Fish were definitely paying attention to the Rapala, and I really wonder if they would not have stuck around if the weeds wouldn’t have been close. I can’t wait to get out on some more ice (maybe tomorrow) and really give them a test and see how they do.
