If you are looking for a lot of catch’n and don’t really care about a lot of keep’n, then you need to load up the boat and the kids and get to Sherman Reservoir. The lake is nearly full, you can find a place to fish out of the wind if it blows and being Sherman, you always have a chance at catching that fish of a lifetime.

On Sunday, 5/6/07, while fishing in the Rose Placzek Memorial Tournament up there I bet my partner Rusty and I caught 80 walleye. Now only 1 of those fish was a legal keeper but the fishing is non-stop and easy to do. The fish are feeding heavily right now and they will hit about anything you present to them.

The best bite that we found was on leeches in 8’ – 14’ of water near any kind of point. Lindy-rigging with a 3/8th ounce weight, you may need to go a bit heavier, we were able to keep good contact with the bottom and make some commotion with our weights. The snells on our rigs were anywhere from 3’ – 7’ long and we tied those snells up with floating jigheads, plain #8 octopus style hooks and spinners. It didn’t really mater just as long as there was something to eat on the hook. The bait that produced best for use was a leech but we caught fish on crawlers, chubs and jumbo shiners as well.

All of our fish were caught pulling ourselves around with the trolling motor but there were boats that were anchored, boats that were drifting and even a couple of boats that were trolling cranks. Basically right now you can use whatever method you prefer to use and catch a lot of fish. Or even better, you can try a new presentation, one that you may not have mastered yet and give it a shot, you will only become a better angler because of it and getting into fish like that will grow your confidence leaps and bounds!

As an added bonus to the walleye bite, the crappie are just beginning to spawn up in the shallows so they are very easy to find. Just tie on a little feather jig or a minnow and bobber and relax back in a cove with the family. This is fishing that the youngest of kids can do and the photo opportunities that will present themselves will certainly be priceless in years to come.

Zach is right- Was there last Thur and Fri, and my hands are just now healing. What a fun time, and I think the kids are wanting to take mom fishing this weekend . At least that is what I was telling them to give her.

We caught a ton of fish and my uncle Frank caught this bueaty. She’s a little on the skinny side but was over 25 inches.

Nice report Zach. The fishing is really on right now. If I didn’t have a tournament on Milford this weekend I would be back out to Sherman. Maybe the 19th & 20th, especially if everyone else is out to Big Mac.
