I’m posting this here because I know there are a number of Nebraska Anglers who hit Milford Lake. This is the 11th Annual Governors’s Golf & Fishing Classic. June 8th is the golf tournament and the fishing tournament will be on the 9th. It will be on Milford Lake in Kansas. This event is put on by Kansas Wildscape Foundation. They are looking for guides for the fishing tournament. The guides volunteer their services, boat and tackle and also compete for prizes. Guides take soldiers from Fort Riley out fishing for the day. All competitors are provided breakfast and lunch during the tournament and they provide guides with several gifts. The big prize is $500 Cabelas Gift Card for the largest smallmouth. They also offer $100 Cabelas Gift Cards for other catagories for Walleye, Wipers and others. So it is a multi species tournament. Here is a link to a pdf with more information.

This sounds awesome!! I would love to get involved but I will be in Green Bay for the Cabela’s NTC tournament. What a great cause!! I hope a few here at IDA are able to help out with this. The fishing should be dynamite down there those first few weeks of June!!

It stinks that this is the same weekend as the Gov Cup. Sounds like a really good cause and could be a lot of fun. GOOD LUCK AND THANK THE TROOPS

I haven’t fished it before. I’ve heard about it after the fact for the last couple years. This year I checked it out early enough that I can get in. I had to make time for it though. It’s the same weekend I plan to head down to the Red River for the next Bassmaster Central Open. At least I will be a couple hours closer. I plan to head down to Louisiana as soon as the tournament is over. I thought it was for a good cause. Ft. Riley is right by the lake and most of those guys don’t get a chance to get out on a boat very often. I guess it costs $100 for each soldier to get in, but area companies sponsor the soldiers so it doesn’t cost them anything. It should be a good time.

Tomich was able to take a soldier fishing for a day a couple of years ago at the PWT championship at Milford and said it was a good time. I really wish I could make this work.

This would be a great time if you can make it. If you could see the looks on those guys faces that day in Milford, It was priceless. It reminded me of last year when my daughter caught her first fish. Here is a link to an article from that special day A fishy salute

I too wish I could participate , but I will be fishing the Gov cup here as well. Yes the soldiers that get a chance to take part in these are truly greatful. I heard about it from the guy that runs the outdoor rec dept on Ft.Riley while I was down there this past weekend. Great stuff. He even mentioned the possibility of those civilians that are guiding possibly staying in base lodging which is on $36 a night, not definitive on that yet though.
