A buddy and I went down to kansas for a few days of fishing at Milford and Council Grove lakes. We got to Milford on sat about 10 (after taking a 50 mile detour due to not paying attention to road signs ).
We headed out from the East rolling hills boat ramp in search of the elusive Walleye. We checked some main lake structure to no avail so we decided to try a couple of wind blown banks with steep dropoffs for any fish tht may have been staging before the evening. Found Main lake water temps to be 47.5 to 49 degrees. We managed to catch some white bass one being a master angler at 17″. About 5 or so we decided to call it a night and go get checked into our hotel rooms.
Sunday morning found us back at the bait shop getting some bait and chatting with a local fisherman. Found out that at Munkers creek the crappie were biting. So we loaded up on minnows and away we went. We figured that if we could not catch any crappie we could motor on down the creek and out into the main lake. After yet another U-turn we found the boat ramp (which is actually a low spot in the bank with some concrete not entirely meant for bigger boats ) We manged a few crappie there and I got lost some kind of big finned creature to a log/brush pile. Never got to identify it,but it tried to take my rod out of my hands when it hit. Later that day we decided to head out to the main lake via the creek. We found out that was easier said than done as I made my buddy get out of the in the 49 degree water and push . He was complaining that the water was cold I told him to quit whining cause it was like 75 degrees outside.
Monday evening found us back at Milford trolling for some eyes. Water temp had dropped to the 45 degree range. We managed to get a few males that were full of milt. ( got that all over the boat now ) I also found out that when working close to the face of the dam someone should always be watching where the boat is in relation to said structure and not to assume that you partner knows how to run the bow mount in order to steer you away from said structure ! That little incident cost me a prop with no-one to blame but myself. all in all not a bad trip we caught some fish wrecked a prop, set a new world record for numbers of U-turns in a 3 day trip (with a truck and boat).
