For those in the Lincoln/ Omaha area, just a quick heads up. Hwy 63 is IMPASSABLE south of Alvo. Heavy drifting and lots of littered vehicles stuck on the Hwy. I watched a snowplow struggle to make it 50 yards in 30 minutes earlier.

Conditions between Lincoln and Omaha are not good tonight and more snow is falling now. The wind is horible and is still causing white out conditions at times. I saw one of the huge “V” plows out on the way home from work tonight. I don’t think they have used those around here for 10 years or so.

Dan, last I heard 29 was still closed from the MO state line north into SD. We have a fair amount of snow here ,but its thw 50mph winds that are wreaking havoc..
ENOUGH of this white stuff I want open water!!! Oh well I guess I will be down in Kansas in a coupleof weeks hopefully Milford is open.

I made the trip down to Omaha this weekend, and I 29 was closed today until about 2 or 3pm. I’m glad they opened it up so I could make the trip over to Bass Pro today and pick a few things up. It’s a real mess down here in Omaha, it’s crazy. Some of the drifts around here are unbelievable. I don’t know much about the ’75 blizzard here, but I’ve heard lots of people making references to this one being as bad as ’75.

We got a little snow out our way. We had a little wind too. The wind has finally layed down, so maybe the city and county trucks can get this mess cleaned up.

I wasn’t alive for the ’75 blizzard, but I have also heard several comparisons.

I think it will take me a week to recover from my lack of sleep.

By the way, did I mention I love snow?!

I went out for drive with the wife this morning on some county roads checking things out. (begin theme song to gilligans island) We found that there are still several county roads that are impassible due to drifting. Also found out that 4wd and locking differentials do absolutley nothing when the tires arent touching anything. Wifes” I told you so, dont try it!” really sting alot more whe she is sitting inside a heated truck while you are digging said vehicle out of snow drift. Although neighbors are a welcome sight on the horizon you are full aware of the razzing that is coming your way when you get home from said neighbors along with wifes “I told you so”. All in all we got to see some really pretty snow scenes and I proved the dealer wrong in the fact that Yes, I CAN get this vehicle stuck!! I really wish the ice would go away, fishing is soo much less work than digging out of a drift.

I’ve crossed the north platte years ago a few times and boy is that one good looking river for smallmouth. I know the upper reaches of the platte is good trout fishing too. You guys get the warm weather about 3 to 4 weeks befor we do here, especially southern Nebraska and Kansas. If i wasen’t so far east of the reserviours where the white and striped bass are i’d come as soon as it hits 50 degrees for a couple weeks, when is that anyway?

Here is what most of the Platte River has looked like for the last 5 or 6 years.

We have temps forecasted to be in the 60’s later this week. Several of our lakes still have 12 inches of ice on them but we should see them open up quickly with temps in the 60’s. I’m planning on hitting Milford Reservoir in Kansas in a couple of weeks. There’s some nice whites and stripers down there!!
