HWY 275 remains closed south of West Point.

DODGE NE-CUMING NE- 103 PM CST MON FEB 26 2007
…THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 745 PM CST FOR CUMING AND DODGE COUNTIES…

AS OF 103 PM CST…ICE JAMS REMAIN IN PLACE ON THE ELKHORN RIVER DOWNSTREAM FROM WISNER AND ALSO DOWNSTREAM OF WEST POINT. ACCORDING TO CUMING COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT…THE ELKHORN RIVER IS OPEN FROM CROWELL… DOWNSTREAM. THERE IS STILL EXTENSIVE LOWLAND FLOODING ACROSS PORTIONS OF CUMING AND DODGE COUNTY…AS LOW LYING AREAS CONTINUE TO TAKE ON WATER.

ACCORDING TO THE WEST POINT GAGE… THERE IS STILL A LOT OF ICE ACTIVITY TAKING PLACE AS RIVER LEVELS ARE FLUCTUATING UP AND DOWN BY A HALF OF FOOT. RIVER LEVELS HAVE BEEN FLUCTUATING BETWEEN ABOUT 9.7 FEET AND JUST UNDER 10.5 FEET. FLOOD STAGE IS 12 FEET AT WEST POINT. HIGHWAY 275 IS STILL CLOSED IN THE AREA AROUND CROWELL DUE TO THE HIGH WATER.

COLD TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN IN PLACE…SO THERE WILL BE LITTLE CHANGE IN THE HYDROLOGICAL SITUATION ACROSS THIS AREA.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN REPORTED. STREAM RISES WILL BE SLOW AND FLASH FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED. HOWEVER…ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IMMEDIATELY.

Damn, man….that’s a lot of water. We have tons of it down here in central NE right now too. Looking out my window, I see Lake Overton is gone. It must have drained pretty quick. But it’s been running over the gravel roads all over the place around here, so I guess it’s all going somewhere.

I wonder what the people in Elm Creek are thinking right about now. They’ve been talking about building a reservoir about 3 miles from my house (east) that would be similar to Elwood. I wonder if all this water has them thinking a little bit more about it now. If it doesn’t get built, I guess I won’t complain too much….cuz if it does, I’d have trouble holding a job!!

It’s nice to see water, that’s for sure!

I’ve always said if I lived somewhere like the Glacial Lakes in SD I’d be out of a job quick myself! Luckily, West Point is 2 hours from almost anything but Catfish and Bluegill

Yoooo Brian, wouldn’t be nice if they could divert some of this “flood” water into Elwood rather than just letting it sail on down the Platte.

Hey, maybe we could sell some of it to Kansas or Wyoming.

    Just a thought!!

    TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!
It would be real nice to get some water into Elwood, but don’t look for it. The CURRENT word is that there’s a better than real good chance that there will be no more inflows to Elwood this entire year.

Not recently. I think it’s too early in the year to start hearing anything about that. But if Elwood gets no water this year, which is very likely, it won’t be long before you start hearing that kind of talk. I don’t know what the boat ramp condition is over there right now, either. Think I’ll take a trip over there, maybe tomorrow or Friday, and see if the ice is gone so you can tell where the water is on the ramp.
