We hit our farm pond near Boelus Nebraska for some ice fishing Saturday. We got started around noon and had pretty solid action right up until we left around 3:30pm. Some pretty heavy snow started to fall around 2 pm or so. We caught close to 70 bluegill, a crappie and a 3lb bass. The one thing we forgot when we left was the camera so I don’t have any good pictures to show. The ones that turned out on my phone weren’t that great. The ones of us holding up a couple fish ended up blurry. I’ve attached a decent photo I took just before we left so you can see what it was like out there.
The ice ranged from 8 inches to over 12″ thick and was covered with around 4″ of snow. All the fish came on wax worms. We fish 8 to 10 foot deep water and all the fish were caught at 3 to 4 feet deep. It wasn’t too long that we figured out they were only hitting the jigs with green on them. We had 2 jigs that were green with black spots that out produced all the others. We just wish we could have gotten into more crappie.
