Anyone fish Sutherland in the winter? A buddy of a buddy recommended going out there, sounds like it was pretty good a few weeks ago. I’ve driven by it 100 times but never fished it.

Any tips to get me started appreciated.

Get on it the day after the ice comes off!!! The January bite there last year when the ice came off early was amazing!! There will be a bunch of boats there from Sidney when the fishing is really good and they will be spooning. There aren’t a lot of huge fish but if you are on them at the right time you can catch keepers all day long. Hopefully the lake is up from the last time I saw it or else it is going to be a challenge to get a boat on early. As for through the ice, most of the people I know out there don’t mess with Sutherland and the moving water, but rather head to the other small lakes around and hit the crappie and gills and ‘eyes’. If you want more specific info, I can get some decent reports from a couple of guys out there.

Thanks Zach, I was under the impression from this guy it stayed open. Very good to know it does freeze in.

We need water everywhere don’t we.
