I would like to ENCOURAGE you to join the NWA in 2006, it’ll be about $30 roughly. The organization is NOT about tourneys, we happen to have them, but it’s more about comraderie, fun events, the meetings, newsletters and so on. There is truly a great bunch of people in the NWA – I should be more active myself. There is also an outdoors show in the spring with speakers and lots of opportunities to meet others interested in the fish many of us pursue. The NWA also works with the NGPC and has done projects, etc in the past. We have a great relationship there.

Most importantly, the NWA sponsors numerous Kids Fishing Clinics and these will be expanded in 2007 thanks to a new Signature Sponsor on board – Wimmer’s Meats – from here in West Point. I plan to have one in West Point in 2007 (gotta get that certified fishing instructor class done).

There is an old saying, “It isn’t about what an organization can do for you, it’s about what opportunities an organization provides for you to take advantage of.” The NWA provides a lot of opporunity and I’ve made a ton of friends over the years.

There is section that is for Nebraska Walleye Assn members only – in this section is our forum, fishing reports, tournament reports/write-ups, membership list, new and past newsletters, photo page, and board members.

I hope to see you in the NWA in 2007.

Just a question for you. Is the NWA going to be more pro-active in keeping the scales open during tourny time next year than they have been in years past?

    Zach,

I don’t know – honest answer. Usually they are open by 11 AM or so at the latest and they were open all day at Merritt. I’ve maybe only weighed a fish early once or twice in NE ever – at the MWC we weighed early each day – usually I won’t give up the fishing time. Each his own. If I popped a 8 lb fish 1 minute from the scale I’d weigh it early. I’m probably spoiled with my livewells though too.

I don’t even know if I’ll fish the NWA and/or NWT next year – I reassess my sponsors, boat, working boat shows, tourney schedules, etc. every fall.

I will tell you our meetings will continue to be on time and short with nice prizes and sponsors, we’ll continue to have a great top gun program, Betty Clayton and Hadans will continue to do a good job, and that part is pretty darn good. To me the NWA is ran awfully well. I have genuinely appreciated how hard Rob, Kyle, Betty, Larry worked and listened this year to the anglers.

I personally think the biggest issue for both the NWA and NWT is protect no cull rules. I heartily support metal tipped tags to be placed in fish with on the water checks. That system has sure cleaned up SD tournaments and resulted in some DQ’s on the water. The Lowrance circuit does this and I hope the MWC looks at it. In pro am tourneys culling is a non-issue for the most part. Inititally zip ties were used but teams were putting the spear end backwards so they could be removed.

For example – you think there has ever been a 23.25″ fish tossed back at Mac??? You betcha.

All that said, I didn’t post this to garner tourney teams though I obviously love tourney fishing. I sincerely care if people join the NWA because it’s the only voice and gathering place for Neb and surrounding state walleye fisherman – recreational or otherwise.
