From Jason’s original post in another thread…

That’s the area I was interested in. I live in Sioux City. I wanted to see one that would do Sioux City or possibly further up the river (like Clay County Park), Yankton, Lewis and Clark, Verdel, and maybe hit Okoboji or Francis Case.

I have never fished tourneys so I would be looking to come in as a rookie. I may also be interested in fishing as a co-angler in a Pro/co format but wasn’t sure what we had in the IA/NE area. I plan to look more into that as well.

I think there is a Bon Homme county (South Dakota) BASS Fed Nation club that has tourneys just like you are talking about.

Where is around here? I’m currently looking at schedules for different tours as they come out. Then I’ll know more about what is going on.

I’m trying to recruit more directors for the NBAA (National Bass Anglers Association). One of the benefits for becoming a member is to be able to fish other divisions tournaments. Since I have the only division in the area it isn’t much of a benefit. I’ve talked to a few guys about running a division and they seemed interested, but never really heard anything back. To make the winter issue for National Bass Angler magazine new divisions should be signed up by November. Right now I plan to run a weeknight division again near Lincoln. We had a pretty good year this year. We averaged 7 boats in our tournaments. I would like to get a weekend division going on Milford Lake in Kansas. Another good option would be to tap western Iowa. I know the Woods Sporting Goods Team trail draw a bunch of guys. I didn’t fish any this year, but last year I fished one and it maxed out at 50 boats. I would also like to see a division that fishes the Missouri River out of Sioux City, Yankton, Lewis & Clarke, Verdel and Francis Case. That right there would make a great weekend division. If it was a little closer I would run that one too. If anyone would like to step up and be a director let me know. Weeknight divisions can be ran anywhere close to where you live. I don’t know if this answers your question, but we can chat more about it.

I might add that the Nebraska Division ABA fishes up north too. The next schedule was just released if anyone is interested. Here is a link to that:

BASS has a division in Iowa. I don’t think they have the 07 schedule out yet. There are a couple you could choose from in your region. I fish the Missouri and the Kansas divisions. It is a pretty good deal to fish them as a co-angler. Here is a link for you. It looks like the schedule only shows the tournaments that are left this year. Other than the ABA the only other pro/am type tournaments I can think of is the Heartland ProAm in Missouri. In know the NBAA had a division that was a pro/am. I don’t know what the BLF might have in your area. I’m sure there are a few others I am missing.

The SD Bass Federation fishes the MO River from Springfield on up. Other than them I see very few tournaments besides some small clubs like ours. If you hear of some more let me know.

From Yankton all the way to the Missouri State line Sioux City’s big open is the only regular tournament I know. Team Supreme tried it once but I think that was it. Too many guys are afraid to run the river or don’t take the time to learn it. They like lakes they can just fish and don’t need to navigate. That’s been the problem with the river forever but it’s a mixed blessing for those of us who know it. It would be nice to have more tournaments but at the same time it scares off enough poeple to leave the rest of us with the best fishing inside 200 miles…..
