I’ve got a five day weekend that weekend, and I’m thinking of hitting a lake somewhere that Fri Sat, and maybe a bit on Sunday too. I’m thinking of hitting an area that I don’t usually fish, like Calamus, but I’m really leaning towards Merritt. I think I’d really like to get up there and hit some water specifically casting for muskies and northerns. Think that’d be too late, and the water would be too chilly? Should I consider going elsewhere? I’m interested to hear what you guys think I should do.

Could be good or bad depending on your outlook at Merritt. We, NWA, are having our championship and last tourney there that weekend.

Personally, with 5 days to kill…. I’d find two buddy’s and go to the Red and Winnipeg River for SUMO walleye. It’s only 640 miles from West Point to the Red River park launch in Selkirk.

    fishhunter44-
Zach and I are headed to Minnesota for the legendary October full moon bite on Mille Lacs that same weekend. I have never been there to do this yet but if you look at some of the reports on here from last year you’ll want to go. A guy has a darn good chance at several eyes over 8lbs in a single night. Not only that but durning the day there is always good smallie fishing and the muskie should be going good at that time too!! I have room in my boat for you if you want to come up. I wish I had room in the truck too but the wife is coming with us so she can visit her mom while we fish. Let me know!!

    I CAN”T WAIT!!!!!!

If you like to crappie fish and have a decent shot at trolling or slabbing up a nice ‘eye’ try Sherman. You can also go out to Mac and catch a lot of whites, slab some real nice ‘eyes’ and maybe even catch some cats out on the prowl. Good Luck!!!

Mille Lacs full moon night bite!

A cat guy should feel right at home fishing in the dark!

Heres my advice, i’d spend the whole 5 down at harlan, seems like the both of us could use some practice there haha

Did you ever make it out to the canal yesterday? I woke up to late, knew i would. I hit the inlet for a half hour so after dark though. Figured id try my classic inlet walleye tricks up shallow. Had one real hard hit but that was it

Thanks TONS for the invite, Ben…now it’s hard to concentrate on anything else besides that trip! Man, do I hope I could make it happen, we’ll see if I can get it squared away.

    Trevor,

I really wanted to go out yesterday, but never did make it out. I didn’t have a problem sitting on the couch all afternoon either, which is what happened, so that wasn’t all bad. Thinkin about hitting the canal tomorrow if it isn’t pouring. Also thinkin about hitting Harlan Saturday….and ya, I can definitely use the practice down there!

    Ben & Zach,
I really hope you guys have a good outing up north this weekend. I thank you VERY much for the invite, and I really wish I could free up everything to make the trip, but I’m not able to. Like you said, there’s always next year, so maybe I should start planning that NOW! You guys have a safe trip, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of those hawgs you guys are sure to get in the boat.

THANKS!! I just talked to a good friend of mine that has been killing the whites down at harlan for a while now and is also getting a few nice ‘eyes’ every so often as well.
