Needing a new ice suit? What to do?

Looking into a new ice suit.

Reading on the specs on the new StrikeMaster Pro Jacket it says 140g of insulation in the jacket and 40g of insulation in the puff jacket. Worn together would be 180g. I really like the new design of the pro suit but not sure I need that much warmth. Stuck in a tough spot.

I am from SE Nebraska and recently sold my Clam Ice Armor Rise suit because it was too big since I lost weight. The warmth of the Rise was pretty good (100g of insulation) but had issues with the quality of the Rise suit. I’ve looked into the Striker suits but sounds like they have quality issues as well. Mainly the stitching. I may just have to settle with the StrikeMaster Surface suit but really like the new design of the Pro. Even considering the WindRider suit as well.

Please give me your thoughts and opinions.

    Thanks!

I bought the Striker Ice Hardwater jacket and bibs last year and haven’t had any quality issues. The majority of the time I just wear the bibs and a hoodie but was out on some nasty -20+ days and stayed warm with the jacket on.

My Striker bibs have been bullet proof. I don’t wear a heavy jacket…I use the Striker Ice Hoodie (it’s called a hoodie but it’s a jacket) and then layer beneath. Never been cold in some seriously cold conditions with this combo.

Ive had the Striker Ice Climate suit and absolutely love it. It might be overkill for you in NE though, but its sure nice up here. When in the flip over its just bibs and the inside liner. I never have the two zipped together. Definitely go with a layered system I would think. Floating suits are a necessity IMO. I hope I never need it, but its nice to know I have it and yes, it does work because I tested it.

another vote for striker ice climate. agree will be too warm for you but the liners are removable making it a very versatile set. no quality issues for me going on year 4

Same here. Mine is 4 years old I think as well. I wear the bibs and a Hoodie 90 percent of the time. I only put the coat on if it’s super cold and I’m on my atv. But I’m in mn and it’s cold

I got the predator bibs last year and couldn’t be happier. They are very warm and I had no quality issues or concerns.

I’ve had both the Striker Predator and the Clam Ascent suit. Both will be great for you. I would try them on at a store and see which fits your tastes better. The Clam Ascent suit will be warmer and more durable than the Rise suit you previously had, FYI. I’m on my 3rd season with my Ascent suit and I don’t have a popped stitch.

Long time reader, first time poster here…Does anyone know anything about the new Striker Apex suit that is supposed to be released this Fall? It says coming soon on their website. I know sometimes people here are involved in testing products before they are released. Pretty steep price tag ($449 for the bibs alone) if you ask me…but throwing it out there as it looks to be a new option this year.

The second “picture” when looking at the jacket on their website is a pretty descriptive video.

Essentially they made it lighter and warmer and more comfortable with new types of materials (PrimaLoft and Aerogel). It’s also treated with C6DWR (durable water repellent).

I know it’s a small thing, but what really caught my eye was the new swivel buckles on the bibs. I don’t see mention to it on their site, but I seen a demo and the buckles basically articulate with your movement rather than getting bound up and/or twisted.
