Hey folks. I finally talked the wife into taking a trip up to pool 4 for some spring walleye action. I am planning to make reservations soon for lodging. My question is. When would be a better time to make the trip? This first or second week of march. Or the first or second week of april. Thanks in advance.

LOL! You’ll need to ask Mother Nature…

If you’re looking for eye’s all the above should be good. If you’re looking for a trophy, the first two weeks of April would be my choice for the best odds.

Im just torn between the two different times i would be able to make it up. Planning on a 4 or 5 day trip. So i wanna make sure we will be able to find fish. Im fine with catching dinks the whole time, but some nice eaters would be a plus. Weather that time of year is hit or miss. Just trying to get it hammered out so i can make reservations. I dont mind if its cold as long as there are some fish. Seems like a great fishery.

As Brian stated April.. it would be my choice too, but it all depends on mother nature, water level, debri and clarity !

If you go one of the first weeks in April plan on allot of company every day and all day on the river from Everts to the dam. For the amount of days you plan on going should give you plenty of time to find other places to fish and be successful. Good luck with your spring trip.

New moon phase is Apr. 7 Th. 06:25 AM or March 8th prior, and May 6 following. If all other weather conditions are cooperating, I would plan the days around this when looking so far in advance.

Well the reservations were made this morning. I will be staying and launching out of Everts from March 31st to April 3rd of 2016. Hope the weather is decent for us. It would just be nice to get into some good walleye action. Its hit or miss here at home. We usually have a good week or two of the hot bite then it turns into more work than fishing. Excited to see the area and maybe make some new friends. So I will see everyone next spring.

…Sounds like this will be your 1st time on pool 4. If you would like to cut your learning curve? You mite want to fish with a guide the 1st day or 2.? Here are the names and numbers of 3 guides that are top notch guys and very very good guides. Marty Hahn 612 875 8848. Denver 952 210 0543.. Jeremiah Luhmann 651 380 7278.. A lot of people book way ahead for that time of year. So if you are interested I would give them a call… …rrr

I have thought about using a guide. But i have been fishing the river for a long time. I think i can figure them out. I use the same techniques down here and do good when i am on the fish. I really appreciate the idea. It is deffinitely something i am considering.

FWIW I fished with Denver earlier this year and it was well worth it. Caught a ton of fish, was very knowledgeable, and just overall a good guy to be in a boat with.

OP as far as your trip. I think you will have no problem finding fish the time of year you went. The issue is that as you head into the weekend you are likely to see hundreds of boats so be prepared.
