How far have we deviated from common sense when last week my wife had to give her driver’s license and social security number to get a fishing license and we don’t even need any ID to vote for President. The baseball All Star Game has been pulled from Georgia because the Governor there want to require an ID to vote. No, I don’t wish I was 18 again.

I bought my angling and turkey hunting license last week and handed the clerk my DL. That’s all I’ve done for years. Not sure where the SSN thing is coming from.

It’s happening because when you buy a combination husband wife license many wives are not in the states computer. They say it’s so child support, taxes, fines, warrants, etc are current. Guess they don’t care if the same people vote.

SSN has been needed for years. They started that to track late child support payments. They won’t ask if it’s in the system from previous license purchases.

This year is different. As 3rd stated, when it’s a Husband/Wife you do.

No different, just an oversight in previous years. The wife’s SS is most likely NOT already in the system.

I kind of agree…the intent of your social security # was for a secrete number that was really never to be shared…now you give it to everyone.

Social security number is needed to verify that the game and fish license purchaser; doesn’t have unpaid child support. The DNR sends the SSN to the Department of Human Services and they check.

You should have proper ID for everything. No complaints about what’s being required here.

Wife and I got combination license by each handing our DLs to the person at Fleet Farm. No other questions or documentation.

Oh dear lord, the world has ended!

I’d guess more people cheat on fishing and hunting license applications than at the polls.

I think you all are on to something here. Lets require ALL voters to provide a certificate of good citizenship that proves they have no unpaid child support, spousal maintenance or alimony. And have no history of domestic abuse and/or restraining orders or pending/past misdemeanors or felonies.

Gripe all you want about the fishing license requirements. But stay on topic.

This has NOTHING to do with voter ID and I see this post as just an excuse to stir up some political crap that has no place on an outdoors forum.

So people do not think kids who’s parents vote, deserve child support, but those who fish, do ? Seems weird to me.

Ok, on the voting, when you register to vote, you have to provide all the same stuff, if your not registered, you don’t vote. For those who doubt it, try go vote at some random polling place and report back.

Jeeeze, get a grip, they’ve required ss for frikin years

Like the Eagles song. “Get over it”

Dead people buy fishing license ? Why so much fighting/deflecting about it then, as the Eagles song says “Take it easy”

Minnesota is a great state to live in. I have lived here for 16 years now. Social # or ID won’t effect me one bit. I do worry about people that don’t have a stable home/homeless. Hard to worry about ID’s when you don’t have the basics. Issue at hand like everything is more complex than we sometimes care to see.
