The original windows in our home from 78 are in dire need of repair or replacement. Anyone recommend a quality company with fair prices that services the TC metro area? The windows are currently wood and if replacement is the best option, we will be looking at FG or vinyl. My blood pressure is too high to see the price of wood replacements…

We went through this with our last home about 6-7 years ago. The range of prices we got was unbelievable. We went with Twin City Window. I was happy with them. The windows were a huge improvement.

    Good luck!

We had a salesman from window concepts stop by offering free estimates. They quoted us almost 1500 per window for vinyl double hung. By the time we negotiated with them it came out to about 700 per window, which I thought was a decent price. It’s been 5 years and very happy with them

We just got our windows/exterior doors done this spring. 12 windows, 3 doors. We got quotes that ranged from 47k to 15k. I ended up buying windows from Home Depot (on sale) and had a buddy in construction install them for around 8k total. Took a bit longer than the bigger companies would have, but he did a great job and half the price. May want to look into something like that. Windows still all have breakage protection as well.

We were quoted prices from $14,000 – $22,000 in 2015 for our windows. We had wood , double hung Anderson Windows that were 25 yrs old, original to the home.

I check with my local Andersen Window rep here at the local lumber yard , just for prices if I was to buy the windows and hire a separate contractor to put them in. Price for my 10 Windows was $5,500 for “Renewal by Andersen” Windows. Wood Windows factory painted white. Upper and lower sash for each.

I have a small one level home. Of the ten Windows, one was a big picture window.

Then I got estimates to just put them In for me . Prices ranged from $100 per hour …..to $10,000

I took a chance on the guy who bid a hundred per hour. Glad I did because his total time was 5 1/2 hrs . That’s him and his two sons, licensed contractors, and it took them an afternoon!!

Total was $5500 for Windows, $550 for labor !!!

The “Renewal by Andersen Windows” are fantastic now 3 years later!

Subsequently I got estimates to side my home with steel siding. $9,000 – $24,000….. Decided on Sherwin Williams paint for $60/galling X 10 = $600 …..then had a BBQ and had family come paint it in a day!

My advise is to take your time, don’t spend more than you have too. There are a lot of rip offs out there to be had.

Did windows on my first home back in 2000. I decided to put in new windows because you then spray foam around them and put on window tape on the out side and seal them up real good. If you can remove the siding and install new style windows I would do that. Replacement fit inside your old frames and the glass is smaller and you still have crappy seal around the frame. I did my own with help from a friend and got them at HD also. cost was around $200 a window.

When going from wood to FG or Vinyl the main item to focus on is the brick mold.
Most FG and Vinyl windows do not have a brick mold or if they do it is not an integral part of the window. They will have some cheesy, on site application. Or some inexperienced window guys will use some type of filler which doesn’t look so good.
Ask about Pan flashing, fastening method, insulation, interior trim, permits, disposal, lead certification (if home is pre 1978), interior clean up, working hours, and make sure they are current with their insurance (wouldn’t want them to break anything valuable in your home and not be able to pay for it) request a copy of there Ins Certs.
