Looks like it says Mercury on the rear quarter panel. Would guess early 60’s?

Don’t know vintage cars but had to test my googling skills with John’s hint. Closest I could find was a 1957 Mercury Monterey 2 door convertible.

57 Mercury Montclair, the one pictured is missing the rear wheel closeouts

    57 Mercury Montclair

Bingo! I checked the Montclair, but not the 57. Interesting how often they changed subtle body lines back then from year to year.

Could be a Monterey also, the badge looks more like Monterey than Montclair ! Either way a cool car !! What’s the story behind it Maddog ?

Its a Monterey. There’s a “y” on the end of the lettering on the forward panel.

I would have sworn it was a 1958, because I thought dual headlights didn’t come out until 1958. Apparently I would have been wrong. Google, which definitely wasn’t around in 1958, says that some 1957 Mercury’s had dual headlights and some had single headlights. Back then every car company came out with new models each year around September and it was a great time to be a kid that enjoyed cars. I knew every year, make and model. Today I’m lucky to identify a car as white or red!

For whatever reason, the ’57 Belle Air was the iconic car of that generation of automobiles. But my dad always said Ford and Mercury made better looking cars inn the late 50s – and I tend to agree.

I don’t know which is better looking but I always loved this Chevy. A 1959 Impala.
