Need help identifying this darter caught in Northern Michigan

  • #1983398

Hey everyone. I’m an armature limnologist and I live on a small, deep, glacial, springfed lake in northern Michigan. I like to trap and record the species of the lake for fun, but this one is kind of tough to get a good positive ID on. It’s definitely a darter species, but I can’t say for sure what. At first I thought a slenderhead darter, but I got a closer look, and a much better picture, and it doesn’t have the same paterns or colors. Close. But now I’m thinking that it’s either a banded darter, or a female rainbow darter. Anyone with expertise out there care to weigh in?

My guess is either a female Johnny darter or female rainbow darter

    I took a closer look and I believe it’s a snook darter.
