Hey guys, I need help choosing the length on a precision noodle. I already own a 28 inch split grip precision noodle. I absolutely love this rod, especially for in the shack, but I’m looking to add a longer rod solely for hole hopping. I primarily fish really small tungstens, like the smaller VMC tungsten tubby jigs with plastic. Do you really get any extra benefit out of anything longer than 32 inches? Should I go with a 36 inch model? I primarly sit on a bucket when hole hopping. Thanks.

I like the 32″ noodle the best. The 36″ is hard for me to fish because I have a slight shake in my hands. It always looks like I am jigging.

    Just my two cents.

You will notice a big difference between 28 and 32″ It feels like a lot more stick. It seems like a more positive experience. If you plan on sitting most of the time, I would go with the 32, otherwise you end up a long way from your hole.

If you’re already sitting on a bucket when hole hopping, how important is length to begin with?

I like 30″-32″ rods. Great middle ground on length. Another thing to consider when length is involved is the split grip. Take away the split and your rod just got ~2″ longer, figuratively speaking. Your reel will sit back however long the split is farther away from the rod tip therefore adding ~2″ to the length of line from the reel to the tip making a “longer” rod. So a 30″ split grip is kind of like a 28″ straight grip.

I personally own a PN and a BW both 30″ straight grip and for jigging. If I were to have a rod solely for hole hopping I would choose either a 34″ split grip or a 32″ straight grip.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will probably go with a 32 inch regular grip. I have a 32 inch bullwhip and I do really like that length.

Is a 32 inch what you would recommend for hole hopping then? Thanks for your help.

32″ is perfect if you sit or kneel.I don’t like to kneel, but usually stand. That’s where the longer rods come into play.I messed around with different lengths, and found a 45″ to be perfect. Can never have enough rods, right?

I couldn’t agree more. I think it would be neat if TUCR made a 45 inch precision noodle for standing like that.
