Need some help with my boat motor. It’s a 1984 Johnson 25hp pull start, ran fine last time I used it. Went out Friday after work and it ran for about 15 seconds haven’t been able to get it running since. Plugs are good, good spark. Carb is new just put fresh gas in before I tried going out fishing. This little whole is on the right side of motor if ur standing behind it looking towards front of boat. There is obviously oil coming out of the little hole, just wondering what that hole goes to/comes from. Any help appreciated.

I’d suspect a fuel issue. Is gas line and primer in tact? Seems simple but had the same issue on a similar motor and it worked.

I am going to guess one cylinder is not getting spark and that is the unburnt fuel and oil running out. Not uncommon for that era motor. When was the last time you used it and it ran fine?

I would check the primer bulb on the fuel line. Make sure it’s not cracked and holding fuel line pressure.

if you have a newer plastic tank the vents on those things are a horrible joke, pressure builds high enough that it will flood the bejeebers out of carbed motors.
I see this a lot in my shop and I cure it with a fuel valve like this one.
attwood 9300FDV7 Universal Fuel Demand Valve, the thing I hate about them is it creates two more places to leak and the diaphragm will go bad at some point in time but it works for the time being.

or you could ,,,, never mind, I wont put IDO or myself in a position of liability.

I used it about 3 days before this ordeal started and it ran fine no issues. I checked both plugs for spark and they both have it…

I’m going to replace all the fuel lines just cuz they’re pretty old anyways. It does seem to hold pressure tho. I disconnected the fuel line at the carb and squeezed the primer ball and gas came out, so I know manually gas is getting to the carb. Might take a look at the fuel pump n see if anything is damaged in there?

I had to do this with my new gas tank. Ventless tanks are a joke. I thought I had serious issues. Luckily this saved my week. Dang tank would blow up to the size of a air balloon.
