Other places in FL too, been intrigued with Plantation in Crystal River north of Tampa.

I want to check this place out too, but I don’t think it is very kid friendly though. It’s more of a convention, golf, fishing, spa resort and there isn’t much around it.

I’m surprised at how many people do warm weather vacations at the end of March and into April.
If I’m going to spend the time and money on a beach vacation I’ll do it in Winter. February preferably.

They are about 75 miles south of Orlando (Sebring area). It is really a crap shoot for weather. We have had gorgeous weather in the 80’s all week, and we have had cold winds and 50’s.

    This.

December – March you never know what you are going to get on any given week.

Appreciate all the suggestions guys, keep them coming.

Nothing against Mexico, it’s just that the prices are freaking crazy for resorts and flights during the times we can go.

Since we only travel when X Junior has his spring break week, my wife is on the web in July/August looking for deals. I know when she looked a month ago, our trip had gone up over $1000 for the three of us, compared to when she booked.

If we’re doing all-inclusive, I figure for a spring break week $1600/pp is “reasonable”. When the Mrs. and I go in mid November for our anniversary, its $1100/pp. Those include air/transfer/hotel/all-inclusive.

Just throwing this out there, but Arizona that time of year is pretty awesome, and it’s always pretty cheap to travel there. A day or two at spring training, day trip to the Grand Canyon or Flagstaff, or heading out to one of the reservoir lakes are all a great time and relatively affordable. Now someone cue up the George Strait Oceanfront Property in Arizona….

Look at West Palm Beach down to Delray Beach Florida. Warmer temps, good fishing, less touristy and lots to do. About an hour north of Miami, half hour to Lauderdale and a day trip to the keys. Good fishing, and beautiful beaches too. Went to Ft Myers last year and too much traffic/congestion. We enjoy the Delray area much more.

The warden and I stay at a Holiday Day Inn on South Beach in Miami for a couple days every year before we cruise. It’s usually < $200/night, has 2 pools and 2 hot tubs, a restaurant, and an outdoor bar/grill. The boardwalk is right out the back door and the beach is another 20 yards away. It’s a family friendly area of South Beach. I don’t know what there is to do near by but we really enjoy it there. I’m sure there’s plenty of fun to be found. Heading back there in a few weeks actually.

Forgot. New Smyrna Beach. It’s less crowded and not compact like most beach towns. Canaveral National Seashore is right down the road for a less crowded beach. Flagler avenue has all the small shops. Plenty of dining opportunities and other entertainment.
