I have recently been offered a free fiberglass boat. It is a 1958 bellboy 14 foot with a 1968 40 hp Johnson and the trailer is included as well. The gel coat is very dried up and spider cracked. The motor turns over and I could make it run again. I already have a nice fishing boat according to my standards. Should I take this free boat and try to fix it up or is the cracking gel coat too much of a project?

I got offered a similar deal. And also have a decent fishing boat. Take your money and buy crank baits and take your time and go fishing. That’s what I did.

No deal. If you don’t like it, it will be really hard to get rid of. No one wants to buy an old fiberglass boat (I know, I tried) and you can’t just take them to the dump.

There’s a reason the guy wants to give it to you. No one else wants it!

If you take it what’s next? a 74 Pinto with no engine?

Hey i have a shelled out 16′ alumacraft lunker that will require a bilge pump to stay afloat.

It is free. Just doesn’t come with a trailer

You guys make me laugh! In all seriousness I was also offered a 77 merc cougar that’s been parked for 15 years. I should have mentioned I already said no the offer. I just wanted to make sure my no was the right decision.

Wait until aluminum prices are up again.
    I’m assuming it’s aluminum.
I made some good cash hauling a couple of them to a recycler.
