Need a new fishing net- need advice

We recently upgraded to a new wx2190 this spring and are updating equipment- such as our fishing net. IDO’s looks like they are using the Ranger 9800 series- is that correct and if so what size net are you using. Never used the basket bottom type- is this a good net? Do you like it- any downfalls?
    Thanks!

TS-84 Stow Master… no plastic.. big net for big eyes and deep enough bag for larger northerns.. stows down very fast into very small.. can put in any storage compartment to deter theft or bouncing around in the boat.

Best net Ive ever owned. 9 years old now. Replaced hook proof netting just this year. Great net. Beckman quality with a more convenient storage system.

2x on the stow master. Best net I have ever owned (mainly because of the little space it take ups when folded.)

I got a Ranger last year. Not just because of James and IDO but I’ve read in the past they are good quality at a lower price because they spend very little on advertising.

I don’t remember the model name offhand but mine is a thin rubber coated mesh, flat bottom, 2 position handle that can extend to sonething like 7 feet. I want to say 25″ hoop. Big enough for the biggest walleyes and average size pike. If you were after 40 inchers frequently I’d want bigger.

Overall the net is a bit on the heavy side but it’s built well and nowhere near the musky net I’m more used to weilding.

Great net for the price if you ask me!

    Check out RS Nets.

I cost a few IDO members a few C-notes by recommending these. whistling

Rs nets are all the rage these days. Fwiw I have been using my ego s2 slider for 3 years now and have had no issues or complaints. Apparently they beefed them up since I bought mine and are supposed to be better.

No offense jonesy, I don’t have anything good to say about the ego nets. They are awkward to say the least. I’d recommend a non-sliding $12 net over those any day.

That said, I paid $60 for a net at FF with a sub-par basket. I replaced it with a frabill basket and am getting by for about $80 invested. I used it for walleyes, to pike to 30# lake trout. It works but I’d like something that slides better and is better built. RS or frabill fits that bill better.

    X3 on the Stowmaster.
    I have had a TS108 for over 10 years.
Very well made and easy to stow.

You can buy beckmans again now if you do a little searching on the internet. I bought a new one a couple months ago for around $100 shipped to my door. Look a little different than the originals and mine is a little bigger than I thought but still seem very well built. I wish I would’ve looked at stow masters now

Id like to know why you think they are awkward. My kids never have issues using my Ego and I have had it for at least 5 years. Never has let me down. The ONLY thing I don’t like is the foam on the handle. I might cut that all off and just use like tennis racquet grip tape or something. The foam can get slippery when wet or slimy, but the net itself has been flawless.

I hockey taped mine lol. My understanding is that’s one of the things that was changed on the new ego nets. I don’t plan on getting rid of mine anytime soon.

The ego neck is weak for big fish. If you extend the net way out and try to lift a 8-10lbs fish I’m pretty sure it would break in half. The small holes in the net don’t allow enough to water to flow through to net a fish while trolling at speeds over 1.5 mph. The foam tears quite easily. If you are looking for a backup with torn foam I will let you have mine for $15. My replacement RS net is very nice.

RS Nets for me. Built like a brick **** house, rubber coated mesh you can get in different loop sizes, and the handles are very nice. Even extending out 70+ inches it doesn’t bow like other cheap nets.

There are/were multiple different bag choices when I bought mine. True, one of them had much smaller holes, but the model I have does not. Regarding the yoke, well I certainly wouldn’t hoist a 15 pound fish over the side of the boat with it while fully extended, but I have brought in several 8 plus pound walleyes, including 2 ten pounders 5 minutes apart in Canada.
To me its common sense to not try and hoist something up at full extension, that is why its so easy to retract the net or slide the net closer to you before going over the side of the boat.

I haven’t been able to put my RS to use yet, as I just bought it at the sports show but I would have to agree and part of my logic was this should be the last mid-sized net I need to buy… Never seen a net anywhere near the build quality of the RS.
