Safe boating practices on the Mississippi River, near lock and dams

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently experienced multiple boating mishaps at our lock and dams and needs help spreading the word and raising awareness about operating recreation boats safely around lock and dams.

With National Safe Boating Week quickly approaching, this is the perfect opportunity to remind boaters of dangers associated with lock and dams on the Mississippi River. We have subject matter experts available to speak to the subjects of:

    · How to safely lock through a lock

    · Extra safety precautions to take around locks and commercial towboats

    · What to look out for while traveling the river

To schedule someone, please contact George Stringham at 651-290-5201 or email at [email protected].

The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the St. Paul District Fiscal Year 2016 $78 million budget, nearly 1,250 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $120 million to the national economy.
