A friend of mine running Lowrance units with Navionics chips had very little detail (no real contour lines) on this area of LotW. He tried both new North and Canada chips.

Is there a better option with higher level of detail for him?

(And I will stick with my Birds and Lakemasters 1′ contours!)

I run Navionics for running & an old Lakemaster chip for fishing. Sometimes I run with both units on Lakemaster. I just added a Navionics Platinum+ last month. For LOTW, Navionics will put the cursor on top of islands. Sometimes the contour lines are just aberations. I love the Navionics+ for WI & MN but it is lousy for LOTW as far as I am concerned. My Lakemaster chip is Version 3.

I see that the lowrance insight HD chip claims HD map of LOTW, though if its like my dad’s 2012 version is on Rainy it stops completely at the Canadian border.

You may have luck finding a woods/rainy lowrance lakemaster chip on ebay but you will probably pay a premium.

Lambeau what Navionics chip is running? There have been a number of improvements, check out the NAV + there are no boundaries in North America US and Canada on one chip and you get Sonar Charts go to the Navionics website click on the web app on the top of the page scroll and zoom in to LOTW click on the sonar icon for the SonatCharts/Fish n Chips view http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en

Screen shots from the web app

So…are there any other options besides the Navionics Sonar Charts noted above for HD detail of the canadian side of LOTW and Rainy on Lowrance?

We found the Lowrance Insight chips to offer the needed detail. Not as versatile as the Lakemaster, but equal detail.
