Our 8 yr old gets all boat naming rights in our family. Told her to pick one out for the rig and immediately came up with Shiner. One of my prouder moments, wife and I agreed was absolutely perfect name.

In searching the archives, I wonder how many other boats I saw out there are still around…

    Gray Goose?
    Fishing Machine?
    Walleye Wagon?
    The Closer?

Thinking of getting a friend who does auto decals come up with something this time around.

    Nice boat name.

The only one of my boats that has a name is my old 14ft richline named after my grandma that I used to fish in it when she was still around that is named Stella.

The other 3 boats are just referenced as.

    Big Lund
    Red Lund
    Small Lund

Boat names are a tricky thing, so actually Shiner is really good.

It’s way too easy to go off the deep end with too-clever-by-half pun names and pubescent innuendos that just scream, “I’m mentally stuck at age 13.” Tonka Toy, Wet Dream, yuk, yuk, yuk.

I kind of like semi-mysterious, “how did you come up with that” names, the origins of which people have to ask about. People’s names for example.

Our Wellcraft 21 was named by my wife. I might be biased here, but I think she did a good job: Distant Sun

If I had to name my boat, I would have to name it “just add money”. You know what boat stands for. Break Out Another Thousand

Growing up, my Dad’s 36′ Welcraft was named ‘Thistle Dew’. I bought my 16′ Lund when I was 14 and since it spent the majority of its life tied up to the big boat at the marina I figured I’d name it ‘Thistle Dew Too’.

My current boat does not have a name.

Never named my fishing boats but if I did I would call it “Therapy”. Boats cost just about as much as going to a shrink so I’m told.

When I first moved to mille lacs, I bought a 24′ searay. When I brought it home, my wife said “why did you buy that big stupid boat”, it stuck. The Big Stupid was her name and in baby blue lettering across the transom it was written.

I forgot. There must be some kind of filter that changes what you would call a child without a dad that starts with a B and ends with astard.
Into monkey butt. Sorry mods, but my wife named it…..

Mine is named “blue steel”. Partly because I think it describes the color well and mostly because of the Zoolander reference, one of my favorite movies.

We haven’t named our boat, but we had an old beast of a snowblower from Montgomery Ward that we named BOB. Big Orange Beast was his name (he was bright orange for some reason) and he was one helluva machine.

When my wife (Shelly) was pregnant my buddy nicknamed her Shellmoo like the whale-that is now the new boats name and it makes me think of a really special time in my life. Kris

That’s insane. Does he realize he could have been killed at any moment in the most cruel way imaginable? My God, had any man said that to my wife when she was with child, she would have drawn a pistol and shot off his family jewels one piece at a time just to make it sporting.

Yikes, what does he do for fun now? Go around kicking bear cubs in the woods? Poke bison with a short, sharp stick?

Our old boat was named the happy hooker and our current boat is named the Play N Hooky (fish and ski Lund). My dad’s skeeter is aptly named the Land Shark since it sits in the garage most of the time. All in good fun of course.

My boat hasn’t taken on a name yet, but my old motorcycle was named Betty. Not particularly creative, but she was all black, so Black Betty fit, and was always just shortened to Betty.

I’ve always felt a name shouldn’t be forced. If I have to sit and think about it and try to place a name on it, it’s not natural. Betty just happened, and caught on with everyone. All of my friends, family, riding buddies, knew her as Betty, but it was never forced. That’s how I knew it was right. I’ve also decided if I ever own another piece of equipment that so effortlessly takes on a name like Betty did, i’ll never sell it. I regret selling that bike every single day.

Perhaps someday my boat will take on a name, but for the time being, that’s not the case.

Technically my buddy gave my little boat a name.

    “W.E.V”

    Ready, Wife Escape Vehicle.

Only by the grace that it wasn’t me that I was able to tell my wife. She actually laughed and tells other people what it is.

Dad and I just call it the little boat and his is the big boat. Probably safer than being caught saying W.E.V toast
