Name your boat? Decal where?

How many of you have a name for/on your boat (aside from the commercial or legal requirements)?

In some lore it is bad luck to not name your boat and worse to rename, some it’s customary.

If you do this, where do you put the decal…back or side(s)?

I’m not a fan of it…feels like it’s for bigger boats. If you have something really personal I say go for it. Tough to fit on the back of a fishing boat if you have a kicker.

I had a sales guy who worked for me that had a shitty old Donzi…like a 22’ model. He named it “Commission Driven” and that drove me crazy. He was the worst salesguy we had and he got fired.

So, I’m a little jaded on boat names. What would you name yours?

I have only seen names on the back, and feel like Matt it’s mostly a bigger boat deal. Most of the good ones like Master Baiter have been taken.

No unless it’s big water boats. Regular fishing boats with names across just look stupid as heck.

I also love the huge sponsor decals on the guys boats who aren’t sponsored and pay for their own decals and put them on themselves lol.

Those are the best . They are usually terrible fisherman too . Got that 400 horse and 5 12 inch graphs though !

I watched a guy on Pepin all sponsored up for the aim tournament scoping around . I pulled 2 16-18 inch eyes out of 3-4 foot water. I heard him haas to his partner that kid in that old crestliner just pulled 2 nice fish out in 3 foot of water what the hell .

Had a friend that named his big boat “after you”. His next boat was “after you 2”

He liked to tell people: “i named my 1st boat after you and my 2nd after you too”. It was always good for a laugh.

If I ever had another big boat to name it would be “Go Fish Yourself”

This is exactly the problem. The people who think they’re being clever and original are almost always neither. If you think you’ve come up with something something original, Google the name and just look at all the people who beat you to it.

I always thought Lake Minnetonka was Ground Zero for un-original boat names, but upon further review, Lake of the Ozarks is probably worse.

Larger boats require a name out of practical necessity because of radio communications, but midwest walleye boats…. yeah no.

Speaking of that, I seen two God awful ugly chevys the last couple days. One was a Alaskan and had a giant bear down the box side, and the other was 2 side x side at the car lot that were huge flags down the box side. Not sure why any one would choose either of those options.

It’s been years since I’ve been to Ozarks but I agree, Grouse. I think I counted a half dozen “poontoons.” Real original.

Seems like a sore spot for some, and I know much is in jest. I’m not talking about wraps, or anything crazy, likely going to do it and put in on the back. Will it make it more acceptable to some if while using the boats the occupants are required to catch big fish and high amounts, smoke cigars, chew tobacco, drink whiskey and Busch Light (not the driver, of course), and keep the radio tuned to 80’s hair bands? Not that acceptability has ever been my thing….:)

Yeah, it’s all in fun. Your boat so do what you want. Throw the name out there…then we can really judge!

My (used) fishing boat came with a bumper sticker on the back transom. I liked the sticker so it stayed on. Not sure if I consider it my boat name though. I guess it could be. The sticker says.
