Ok folks, I’m curious what everyone thinks is showing up on my 859 Humminbird. I’m not 100% sure so lets hear what you think.

This was from Lake Ashtabula and the possible fish species are: Walleye, Smallmouth bass, White Bass, Yellow Perch, Northern pike and Bullheads.

    1. Id say pike or walleye up off bottom
    2. Bait fish with weeds on bottom.
    3. Walleye
    4. Bait
    5. Bait ball

    These are my guesses.

At that speed and depths I doubt any of those are eyes, if they are not that big. Possibly the faint arches under the bait ball would be my best guess.

Other than that it’s a crap shoot. Smaller schools could be sunny crappies. I

The 33′ blip it that’s the best arch you found I would move on. Can’t fish one smaller blip.

33′: Bugs or bubbles coming off deep mud. The thicker mark here wouldn’t really interest me because it might be one fish and faint, meaning small or debris. This one depends. If it is fish dispersed, I’d hit it by covering ground by trolling or present them with something that moves, bottom bouncer, or lindy.

    11′: Weeds

16′: Probably a smallie arch. Would definitely hit this if I was looking for smallies, or if I had intel that said it might be a walleye up shallow.

    12′: Weeds

23′: Bait ball possibly with something under it that is planning to feed. Could be any of the above, walleye, perch, smallie. I’d try for him to see what it was. Mainly because that would be an aggressive fish that wants to eat something. Can always release it.

I’d lower the back end of my transducer…sitting high might cause the fish arches to show up at that angle.

I was up there last weekend. I didn’t see another boat on the water by me on Saturday. Where were you fishing?

I think you’re on to something. I’ve noticed my transducer has become a little loose and it does rotate up once and awhile.

Kind of interesting to see what different people think of the same sonar images.

Is this where DI would give the user a better idea of what they’re looking at?

Yes DI would be a great tool in these circumstances, My guesses were based on what my sonar shows compared to my DI image, I did not take speed or body of water into account for my guesses. Kyle and nhamm probably are a better reader of sonar than I am too. Bob also brings up a valid point.

I think Kyhl nailed this one. I wouldn’t bother targeting the mark in 33′ at all though unless it became a pattern, that mark is 9-10′ off bottom.

I was near Ashtabula Crossing. I saw 4 or 5 other boats and only 2 of those were fishing. Sibley was empty when I went by in the AM and PM.

I can’t believe the blue sunfish hasn’t been mentioned yet.

Andrew, go to BBC boards website.

They have more humminbird threads than we do mille lacs comments.

You’ll find a ton of information and screen captures that’ll help make you an expert.

You’ll get out of it what you put into it!

For what it is worth, I wouldn’t fish anything on your screen captures.
