Naked Without A Leatherman

Does anyone else feel naked without a Leatherman?

I broke mine the other day using it for something it wasn’t even close to designed for, and felt weird every hour I was without it.

I carry one everyday, no different than a wallet or phone. Over the years my few Leathermans have gotten me and others out of countless pinches.

Everything from pulling a tiny fuse, fixing a Buddy Heater on the ice, cutting up a fish in a pinch, tightening a battery terminal in no-man’s-land, pulling hooks out of fish and humans, gutting a deer, stripping a wire, tightening a screw, filing a hook, shaving kindling, cutting a rope, fixing a downrigger, opening a can of beans, pulling a splinter, etc etc etc.

Literally thousands and thousands of uses over the years with the little tool box in my pocket.

Any of you guys carry one all of the time? Ever have one save the day for you?

I want to welcome my new Wingman to the ranks. I don’t think I could get by without you buddy mrgreen Your pocket clip is priceless to keep you right where you need to be

Billy always had an arsenal of tools on him, including his trusty Leatherman. He definitely would say he felt naked without it. On our wedding day he actually left it at home for me! It didn’t fit right with his tuxedo. Besides he did have two pocket knives on him though, so as not to feel totally naked.

I often have a knife within reach, and several in my purse. And I don’t mean one of those tiny keychain knives. I prefer a real knife. For some reason I also have a 3′ tape measure, flashlight, lighter, screw driver set, a small multitool (similar to a Leatherman), and nail clippers in my purse. You never know what you’ll need!

Mine recently went missing for about 10 days. Strange feeling as I couldn’t pin down where I could have possibly lost it. Couldn’t make myself go get another one and I’m glad I didn’t. It turned up last Thursday I think. yay

Bman – i hear ya. I have one of those wingman models – but i never carry it. Too bulky. I have a ‘skeletool’ model. Love it. Rather be without my phone or wallet than be missing it.

My must-have tool is my Swiss Army knife. I use the scissors more often than any other part of the knife.

My last one was a older style Sidekick, a little lighter and thinner than the Wingman and new Sidekick, but I couldn’t find one. I’ve had a Wingman in the past though and liked it (has a scissors, Sidekick doesn’t)

I could never get used to one of those big really heavy 15+ tool Leathermans that have to be in a belt holster.

Do the Skeletools have a pocket clip or just the carabiner belt loop clip?

I’ve never been able to carry anything on my person comfortably. I have a concealed carry but seldom carry a gun. My wallet is always in the house on the table or in the cup holder in the truck or boat. Wearing any jewlery drives me nuts. Haven’t worn my wedding ring in over 30 years. My phone in a cargo pocket is tolerable but not for long. I always get complaints I don’t respond to texts or calls for hours because my phone is not on me.

I see guys wearing these giant heavy watches and don’t see how they stand it. Key fobs in my pocket but only while I’m out driving around. I’m sure it’s some phobia or condition but it’s worked fine for me for years.

So a Leatherman would drive me crazy strapped to my belt but I have one in my tackle box.

Front left pocket, Leatherman, money clip.
    Front right pocket, empty.
Rear left pocket, wallet, small mag light flashlight.
    Right rear pocket, utility knife.

Left breast shirt pocket, phone, little notebook & 2 pens.

    Little old school I guess.

I have a little micro and a pocket knife that I carry every day at my office job but carry the wingman whenever I’m not at work. I have had other models but find the wingman is a nice mix of tools, size, weight and cost. Scissors is by far my most used tool and the wingman scissors isn’t to bad. Cuts any braid I have ever run across.

Tried carrying them for a few years but after misplacing 3 of them in about 16 months I said screw it and stopped. Handy to have no doubt. I did find it got in the way of me putting my hand in my pocket though which was slightly annoying

I have had 1 on my side for 23 years leatherman 100 broke it after about 8 years and sent it in. received the 200. Broke that and sent it in and got a 300. I own 2 now so I always have 1 when I break tools off. I can’t stand not having 1 in my leather case on my right hip

LOL no judgement here! I have no idea what brand my purse is. It’s black and it holds all my crap, so it works for me. 😁

I guess all those years with Billy rubbed off on me! Billy actually had several brands of muiltools over the years: Gerber, Leatherman, and his latest one was actually a Victorinox.

    Victorinox held up the best.

I’ve had a knife on me every day of my life since I was about 8 years old. For the last 25 years I’ve had a Leatherman on my belt. The current model is the “Fuse”, the one with the titanium frame. Yes I would feel very strange without it. I use it every single day at work, and most days at home.

I’m always carrying my Milwaukee Fastback. Prefer it to a pocket knife for the easily replaceable utility knife blade and quick one handed opening.

I don’t carry the Leatherman in town but won’t go fishing or hunting without it. Too many uses to name all of them – extracting swollen shell from a buddy’s side by side, pulling porkie quills out of labs (more than once), repairing the outhouse heater on a cold day and more.

You guys would be amazed at how many tools I can fit in my man purse. Leatherman, pocket knife, mascara, lip balms. Very versatile and I have different colors to match whatever shoes or belt I’m wearing.

I’ve carried a Swiss Army knife every day since I was about 12. I have 4 different ones.

Another thing I can’t get along without is a Mini Maglite. I’ve had one since the year they came out, 1984. Still have that one, now I have one in each car, one in my tool box, etc, etc. Probably have 8 of them total.

Every day item, as much as socks and underwear. Wore it on belt at my wedding. It has saved the day at countless birthday parties and Christmas’s, two weddings, one funeral. After I made points about how it has saved the day, my wife has given up trying to stop me from wearing it religiously. She now believes the usefulness outweighs her opinion that it is redneck looking. On one particular job site we weren’t aloud to have one on us. It was for a railroad. Job soup said there’s a proper tool for every job, and that we will use the right tool. I also had to throw one in the trash at an airport. Forgot to leave it in hotel when flying home for a visit when I was working on the road. Got dropped off by shuttle service, and security said throw it in trash, or I wasn’t aloud to board.

My leatherman has been relegated to the truck center console ever since I dropped the tool bags. It’s there when I need it. Now days I suffice with this sweet little Buck EDC knife.

I had to give one up at the airport about 7 years ago too. Already checked my bag and was going through security with it in my pocket like a dummy lol

Back then a Wingman/Sidekick was only about $30 though so it didn’t sting too bad

Oh c’mon now Matt, you know us ghetto northsiders ain’t got all that! Our cheap drawstring backpacks do the trick for us.
No leathermans here, ain’t got nothing mechanical that works so all that screwdriver gizmo stuff is useless. Knife? Ha! Give us a sharpened end toothbrush, we shank fools around here. Mascara perhaps, but that’s only after the big fake eyelashes are applied. Lip balm consists of a sandwich baggie with a dab of Vaseline from the big a$$ jar at home that looks to be from 1979 that probably still carries your parents a$$ germs when they had diaper rash.
