Went up to leech Wednesday night. Spent 10-12 hours on the water Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Thursday: Was probably the best day we had. Chased eyes in the morning to no luck found a northern in the narrows but could not buy even a dinky perch to bite. Ended up on sand point and found a really active school of perch. Only boat out there. Ended up bringing 18 home and had a few touch upper 12s. Trolled for walleyes at night and got a nice fat 22.75″ fish.
Friday: morning was nice. Lake actually had some waves and it was cloudy. Got a couple eyes in the slot and found 8 perch bigger than 10″. Had to run back to the lodge for a ridiculous reason around 1 and when we got back on the water at 330 the sun came out and the wind absolutely died. Wasn’t able to find anything but did get 1 eater walleye trolling after dusk. Others in our group managed to get a few jigging points after dark
Saturday: weather was similar to Friday in the morning but less wind. Focused on walleyes and it was tough. The sun came out earlier and the lake was calm. Did manage to get a 22.75″ eye off of goose Island. Saw about 4 other fish caught. Decided to go to sand point and got a couple keeper perch but the bite there was very slow. Saving grace was trolling that night produced 3 fish in about an hour. Only 1 eater though.
Sunday: Was more of the same for everyone in our group. The guys who stayed until Monday found a couple fish after dusk. All in the slot.
Random thoughts:Water temps were 58-60 everywhere we went. I suck fishing leech when it’s so calm. I think serious consideration should be given to allowing 1 slot fish to be kept. 85% of our walleyes were in the slot and had to be tossed. Best perch fishing I’ve had up there in many years. I should hopefully should be up there the 15/16th and find a better bite.
