My home is now quarantined

I have two family members that went with undiagnosed Lyme for months. My 23 year old son got it in October of 2018 and my wife in August 2019. I guess lightning can strike twice, even if they got it 9 months apart from each other, their recovery has overlapped.

Both were tested 2-3 times for Lyme at onset and each test came back negative. The thing with Lyme is if it’s caught up front it’s very treatable with antibiotics. If it’s not, the road to recovery is uglier than I ever imagined.

Both have had numerous neurological, cardiac and pulmonary issues in addition to the usual joint pain and fatigue. Both finally tested positive in late 2019 and started antibiotics around first of the year.

My son started meds in December and has shown slight improvement. He’s young and strong. My wife has always been a picture of great health, an avid exerciser and vibrant personality. Although she started antibiotics in January, her system doesn’t tolerate them well and she has been on and off, mostly off medications. She has been reduced to a bag of bones, has lost 20% body weight she didn’t need to lose.

On Thursday and Friday she blacked out twice and almost a third time. We spent the day at the Cardiology clinic. Her blood pressure is very low and heart rate erratic.

She’s been lying in bed day after day in great discomfort and looking so different than the spark of light that she has been to everyone – the one people go to when they need a lift, reassurance, support, prayer. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t look up to her.

At this point if she, and maybe even my son, got the flu, a virus or even a cold I don’t know what would happen.

So I’ve recently put our house under quarantine. No one in or out. Groceries delivered and disinfected before putting away. For how long who knows. They are not elderly but fall in that category of an “underlying condition.”

I’m posting a photo of them from this past August. Sam was sick but came along as a good sport. Kelly was just days before getting sick herself. Let’s hope we get back to this happy place sometime again this summer.

FryDog, I wish your wife and son a full recovery.
I know a couple that have had/have lymes, and know it is a tough recovery.
One of my best friends had Lymes and never fully recovered.

I fail to understand why doctors wait for a test when all the signs are there. My parents have had it 6+ times between them and it is 50/50 at best that the test comes back positive the first time. At least the Dr. They have will give them the meds without a positive test and they have always come out of it quickly. Good luck and prayers for a good outcome.

That’s horrible! I had no idea. I wish you all the best. If you need anything let me know.

I hope the new doctor in the family is able to be a blessing in this situation. (Not sure what her status is) Good luck and I hope you can keep your family healthy!

Man that is some scary stuff regarding Lyme. We live in the woods and I’m always hounding my wife to look the kids over thoroughly. Best wishes to your family for a full recovery, Fry

My prayers are with you and yours. You have taken the right precautions to protect those close to you. So many have stated that the healthy will survive this and most likely the vast majority of healthy individuals will. What some loose sight of is how many of our family and friends have health issues that even the slightest infection could have devastating results. Elderly, diabetic, overweight, COPD, cancer, heart issues, the list goes on and on.
We need to take the steps to protect those that can’t protect themselves.

I feel for you and your family. When I contracted lymes it took a month of up and down before diagnosis. Then 1 month of antibiotics then about 6 months before I was truly normal again. Best wishes and prayers for you your wife and son. Hang in there.

Frydog I’m sorry to hear the news about your family.

Please step back a second though and realize that the Coronavirus is spread through close contact from other individuals that are carrying the virus, or surfaces they have coughed on/touched with mucus.

Cooping them up in the house isn’t going to help them. Get outside, go for a walk, go for a drive, go do something….

There isn’t any Coronavirus on the lake, river or hiking trail.

99.999999999% of the outside world is free of the virus.

Pack a lunch and get them outside! Vitamin D and the outdoors is an amazing thing. Get the boat out, scout some hunting spots or go shed hunting. They need it and you do too. Take care man!

Had Lymes to,it put me out of commission for two months.I could barely walk or get out of bed and they had no clue what I had.About a month into it they finally tested me for it and I was positive, actually made me happy in the sense that I finally knew what was wrong.I really thought I was going to die.Terrible disease, even a year after the fact I still feel it starting to effect me from time to time,I am a firm believer you can never get rid of Lyme.Hopefull for a full recovery for your family.

I truly hope and pray for a good outcome with your family. I have had Lymes since 1985 and it still will raise it`s ugly head once in a while. Those that have had Lymes do not forget you cannot donate blood, that is what I have been told.

Praying for your family Frydog. I have a cousin who spend an extensive amount of time living with lyme’s and finally got diagnosed a short while ago. It’s a brutal thing to go through from what I’ve seen. Hoping they start feeling better and recover soon.
