Hey Guys I moved to Minnesota over the Winter from South Dakota. I don’t know the area here, so was wondering if you could help me out with a spot or two to try with my kids on opener. Not looking for secret spots just a lake where there is a chance at getting an eye or two. PM if you dont want your spots out haha.

    Thank you,
    Steven

MN has a lot of lakes, helps to know which area you’re located in. We promise, we wont steal your identity grin

If you have a decent size boat I would say head up to mille lacs. Only an hour or so drive away and there will be plenty of boats in community spots to find fish. Bring some light jigs or lindy rigs tipped with shiners and you should be able to boat a few walleye. If your looking to keep fish then I would look else where.

x2 on Mille Lacs opener. It’s electric, you can feel it in the air!

If you are looking to stay local minnetonka and pool 2 are probably the best overall walleye fisheries in the city. If you have a boat and are willing to travel the skies the limit

Any metro area lake think getting a couple walleyes is a good day. On opener with all the pressure can be tough, further you get out the better.

I am willing to drive as long as there is a chance for fish!

Waconia, Harriet, Mississippi are good options. Some likes in the Dassel/Cokato area “can” be good too, Washington, Collinwood.

Then Mille Lacs. You can do it as a day trip from Maple Grove. It’s catch and release only this year though if that matters to you.

If just catching fish is what you are after, Mille Lacs is tough to beat! Should be a great opener and chance for a large # of really large fish.

I’d also throw my vote towards The Big Pond! A lot of fish to be caught and they’re everywhere!

Need I say Mille Lacs too? Worth mentioning though, if it is a windy day, just plan on putting your boat in on the calm side and then you can avoid getting beat up. Also, on the opener you can expect the public accesses to be crowded. It might be worth the $10 to put in at a resort as those tend to not be as jammed up as the public accesses can be. Unless you’re ok with waiting a while to put in or pull out.

Bitter lake or waubay only a little further drive. Keep a meal if you want.

Skip the opener and go during the week. There’s too many people that don’t have the slightest idea what they are doing at landings, in parking lots, etc. on the “opener”

Could just jump on a launch on mille lacs to. Pool 2 is always a good bet for opener to.
