So what is everyone putting on their muzzys ? I have a TC Omega and certainly will be looking into options soon. Figuring around $300 range or so with scope and mounts. Looks like lots of options out there….

I’d say it will depend on how hot you load it. There are a lot of great scopes for the front stuffers but have alarmingly short eye relief. If you’re doing a full magnum load and pushing bullets in the 300 grain range you probably want to shop thru what’s out there for one with a 5 inch eye relief. I also like a scope that has at least a 40mm bell on it for light gathering and you can still get by with medium height rings….helps keep the cheek closer to the standard stock.

I know this is an older post but I’ve been very happy with the 2 muzzle loading scopes I have mounted specifically designed for muzzle loaders, manufactured by Hi-Lux it’s the Leatherwood HPML scope TB-ML 39×40.

You can get this scope for about 1/2 of what your talking about spending, it also includes charts for the most popular saboted bullets and weights and velocities with their applicable ballistic coefficients. The eye relief is about 3″ and I have been “touched” shooting high powered loads on the 200 meter range but I think that was more my fault as I wasn’t locked in properly.

I ended up with a Cabela’s Brand scope… when I went in , of course with the law change, every other person in the state beat me there and bought most of the muzzzy scopes. I paid $99 and maybe another $39 for mounts… very happy with it. Not the best but I am comfortable with it to 200 yards now. I had 1′ groups at 80 yards. Very happy with that !

1″ @ 80 is a good group to swat deer.

Cabelas label scopes are decent pieces. I have two of them on some center-fires and they do well.

I picked up a used CVA Kodiak .45 late last fall as a project gun. I have a Nikon Pro Staff 2X7X32 on it right now. I’ll be making some vent liners and converting the breech plugs to shoot the 209 powder for when it warms up. The Pro Staff has about 4″ of eye relief and the Kodiak is a longer, heavier gun so I should be able to not get kissed. My one .50 cal sure likes my eye brow and my .50 Optima pistol has come dangerously close to the head a couple times with a 90 grain load of the 209 powder and a 300 grain XTP bullet. I don’t shoot the Optima that hot much anymore.

I’ve got the cabelas one too. I’ve got no complaints on it, what you get for the cost seems like a pretty good value. I’m sure it’s not to the level of the fancy stuff, but I don’t really want something on a rifle I tote around through the woods for a =<100 yard shot that I mite have a panic attack over if it gets a scratch on it.

I don’t need or even want a “great’ scope for my muzzy because I am not going to shoot over 100 yards anyway. Surprisingly Menards carries scopes. Far from top of the line, but I bought one on the cheap and mounted it and am impressed. I like a big objective opening for more light gathering so I got a 3x9x50 for under $100
