Muzzle loader questions

So the way this deer season is working out, or not working out. I might have to shift in to muzzle for the first time ever.
I’m looking to spend the least amount of money, but I dont want to buy junk.
I have never shot or owned a muzzle loader. What should I get my self in to. Or even buy used if possible. I know there are also rules on what power scope I can buy.
But also where can I go take practice shots if I do purchase.
    Thanks for any input

They’re all pretty decent now days. I had a Thompson center pro hunter that gave me fits but everyone else I know that has that model love them, so it was either me or a bad gun. I really like my CVA Kodak it’s simple and shoots awesome. I even bring it during regular firearms season often because I like it so much. Even shot a trophy this year with it. Don’t know if they still sell that model. But my dad got a CVA Wolf and he really likes it. You should be able to pick up a decent smoke pole for 350-$500. They are pretty easy now days. Just got to keep them clean. I don’t know where your located, but I have a membership at a gun club in Monticello, I could maybe meet you there and I could help you sight it in and give some pointers. They have 25,50,100 yard shots. Otherwise, just give a call if you want to ask a few questions. I’m by no means an expert, but I know enough to help you get started. Too bad Tom isn’t here anymore, he was the resident muzzleloader expert. whistling carful though you may create a new addiction…..

Thanks guys. Appreciate the input. Do you shoot iron sights then?

Bearcat I have a spare Thompson Center Black Diamond I don’t use and lend out to buddies getting into the sport 👍

Stainless barrel and camo synthetic stock with iron sights (fiber optics)

You’re welcome to use it. I’ll send you out with enough stuff for a few shots.

You gotta stop by anyway and get that Shore Lunch waytogo

I will call you after I come back out of the woods. I would love to take you up on that, thank you.

I have used a cva wolf since I started muzzloader hunting 5 years ago. Definitely not the nicest gun out there but it shoots great groups out to 175yrds.

I prefer iron sights. Most muzzleloaders have some type of fiber optic rifle sights. I was at Runnings today, they had several scoped and non scoped units.

I ended up killing my 2 yesterday. So no need for a muzzle this year. Thanks everyone
