Must-have Fishing Gear?

    Hey everyone,

    I was wondering, what is the best must-have fishing gear that you all recommend for a starting out ice-fisherman?

    Auger. Can’t do anything else without a hole in the ice.

    Good warm water proof bibs and coat.
    A couple inexpensive combos to start with.
    A portable fish house.
    Buddy heater.
    Small tackle box.
    Jigging spoons and some small jigs.
    Ice scoop.
    Spud bar and safety picks for early/late ice.

    Warm boots and clothes are #1, if you don’t stay warm you won’t stay fishing. Auger, basic electronics like a Vexilar FL8 and Navionics app on your phone for mapping. Hub fish houses are easy and cheap, and a buddy heater. One good tip up and a couple rods. Scoop, weight puck, jigs/hooks, and a scoop of fatheads and you can be fishing effectively for under $1k. If you shop around for used stuff, it can be quite a bit less.

    Auger, vexilar, one rod, one tip-up, 5 gallon bucket, ice scoop, and a few jigs/tackle.

    After that, a shelter and a heater.

    Honestly the biggest thing for me is my Otter sled. Love that thing from putting deer in it during the fall to ice fishing early ice. Best investment.
