    Hey everyone,

Looking to spool up my first Musky Reel. Going to be a rod for a mixed bag of styles just because with how expensive musky tackle is, it’s going to take me a bit to build it up. What are your recommendations for line in this situation?

    Thanks!

Cortland Masterbraid Bronzeback is my favorite. 80 lb for most baits and 100 lb if you will be throwing big rubber. I’ve tried suffix, tuff line and spider wire and all of them seemed okay. I would recommend avoiding power pro. I’ve lost a few baits on backlashes when I used it and I know of several others that have lost baits and a couple who broke off on fish.

    Welcome to the addiction.

Thanks Feathers. What about Leaders? Recommendations?

100 lb Cortland Masterbraid. The line is round and that will help in many ways.
Thorne Brothers carries it and during next week I will be driving up to them to have some reels relined for me.

Thanks guys. Before Tuma slid his post in I had went ahead and ordered the 80 lb Cortland MasterBraid Bronze.

Appreciate the help! 1 week out from opener!

You will like Cortland MasterBraid. Toughest line I have found for muskies. The only downside is late fall when the line starts spraying you back with 35-40 degree water.

Stealth flouro leaders 100# – 120# are great for bucktails and big rubber.

When using wood/plastic jerkbait a solid wire leader 174# works better for me, however, some people only use flouro leaders.

Once you start throwing a bunch of different stuff you will figure out what you like and fine tune the sizes.
