Muskie Rod Blank Suggestions

Hello All! I’m planning on building my first Muskie rod this month and I’m looking for some blank recommendations. I’ll start off by saying that St. Croix stopped selling their blanks, so that’s not an option unfortunately. Since this is my first Muskie rod, I’m not looking to break the bank (that will happen after I prove to myself that I will actually use the rod). I have seen quite a few forums talk about the tackle industries XH rod and that it is a very good entry-point rod. I can get a blank for $70. It seems a little too good to be true, so I’m asking the pros! Does anyone have experience with the one piece tackle industries rods? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I have 2 tackle industries rods and I like them. Never used a top end St.Croix Muskie rod so I don’t know how they compare.
If I was going to build my first Muskie rod I would try them out.

I have not used Rainshadow’s muskie blank but they offer some nice stuff.

You can also check out the Musky line at Rodgeeks. Rodgeeks blanks are all St. Croix designs and materials (they are their partners).

    Will, here’s a thought…

Thorne Bros sources their Predator line of rod blanks from St. Croix, not to mention having access to St. Croix’s own branded blanks. If you had your heart set on making this rod with a St. Croix blank, you might be able to sweet-talk Lonnie or Mike in the Thorne Bros rod shop out of either a Predator or St. Croix blank. They’re the same thing, just different colors. Might be worth a shot? Worse thing that could happen is they say no.

Thanks for all the info guys! Looks like I have a decision to make. If I remember, I’ll post an update after I build the rod and I’ll give my 2 cents.

Brian: I already spoke with Lonnie and they are definitely willing to sell me a predator blank (awesome guys at Thorne’s). My only set back is the cost right now ($266 for the blank alone, which means a build cost of around $320). I’ve already determined that if I use the rod I’m about to build enough, then I will build on a predator blank.
