Even on this site I see both spellings used. Is it a regional thing?

Muskie is a fish, and musky is how you smell after a one one night stand.

That’s my understanding as well, more or less. smirk Muskie is the fish and musky is an adverb, used to describe something with musk.

While were on the topic, I’ll add possum or opossum?

You play possum and you shoot an opossum in the backyard.

Yea, I tend to switch between the two for no rhyme or reason.

This has been talked about on this site before. WI uses muskie and MN says musky. Since I fish muskie/musky in both states I use both. toast

I’m the exception I guess. My Minnesota spelling is Muskie.

I live in Minnesota and I use both for no reason besides it’s a nickname not proper name.

It might have been the other way around

Hayward, WI. Musky Capital……Boulder Junction, WI. <em class=”ido-tag-em”>Muskie Capital……depends on where you are I guess.

Or how well you know your history.
Boulder Junction was declared the “Musky Capital of the World” by state law starting in 1950, and was awarded a U.S. trademark for that phrase (over Hayward’s objections) in 1971. It’s currently held through 2021, when I’m sure they’ll renew it for another 10 years. Tourism advertising in the pre-internet days is interesting, and neither place would crack my current top 5 list for “capital” muskie fishing.

    Wouldn’t it be an adjective?

On a certain fishing website you might know me as Musky Ben.

The world’s largest Musky Shop is in Minocqua, WI.

And even though MN has some great Musky anglers, in the PMTT, more top place finishes have come from anglers in the Hayward and Minocqua/Boulder Junction area than from MN.

    There, that outta getcha going!!!
