Mushrooms – Chanterelles & Lobster

Lobster mushrooms stink like seafood if they’re overripe, so I figured the fishing page would receive this best. Been hunting mushrooms past few years, wanted to see if they get any love here. Super fun hobby, kinda like walleye they fight like a wet plastic bag. Anyone finding non-morel shrooms this year? My first time hunting fall shrooms, far less ticks this time of year compared to spring (0). Been very successful as of late in SW Wisconsin lately

Ive seen those and every kind of mushroom that grows in this region. I wish I had a mentor that had taught/shown me what I could eat. I always wonder.

Pretty hard to go wrong with Chantrelles and Morels in MN. Not a lot of imitators and both have distinct characteristics to set them apart from anything dangerous. False morels are a thing down south but even those a are pretty obvious to tell from the good ones with just a little research.

But as they say – there are old mushroom hunters and there are bold mushroom hunters… but there are no old, bold mushroom hunters jester

It’s been pretty dry and slim pickens in my area, but getting a few chantys and lobsters too.

For guys new to it, they both are pretty recognizable. The only thing close looking to chants are Jack-o’-lantern mushrooms. They’ll kill you or at least make you wish you were dead.

The good thing is they’re easy to tell from chants because Jack-o’-lanterns only grow on wood, chants only grow in dirt.

i like to hunt for shrooms. I usually do pretty well on morels during the spring. When im up north at the hunting shack i enjoy walking through the woods looking for them. Im not very experienced but there is a facebook group that is really helpful in identification. Lobsters are my favorite
