Lot of cool cars and stories. This is my 68 GTO looking same is it did when purchased in 1977. It is how we rigged them back in the day and I still love the look. 14’s on front, 15’s on back (L50’s), air shocks, and even has a trailer hitch. My daily driver for several years. Its a 400HO 4 speed still with its original drive train. Runs great but I stupidly let it sit outside unused for years so its in tough shape now. Would need some work to be road worthy. At least I now have it inside -)

    just too loud

I hear these Jap vehicles revving up and its like ying, ying, ying. These poor dorks don’t have a clue what power sounded like.

These old cars are like the music of the era…classic….and will never be brought around again unless people revel in them and do what this thread has shown. Kudos to all of you who have taken time to preserve an era. Gone but not forgotten. Keep it rolling.

Every year there are muscle car shows at the state fair grounds. With nice weather it’s fun to see them cruising around town at night. Most aren’t sneaking up on anybody if you know what I mean. lol

Wow, some sweet rides. Brings back some great memories.

I did the poor boy build on a nova. Ran low 12s. Nothing that compares to today’s race cars used on the streets. But back in the day, any all street car running high 11s to look w 12s were haulin azz

on the wheel hop a company called UMI makes good bar
link kit that stops the hop.
I have those on the vega, they are adjustiable for the index of the nose
for no bind on the drive shaft.
I also have real lakewood traction bars rare part for sure.
a posi with 4.11 gears and 9.5 rubber for hook up..
it will still bark the tires in all 3 gears..
manual pack on the real rare for vega thm 350 trans.
kinda a pain in town unless you are a stick guy..
lol you have to remember to shift back to 1 at a stop light..

custom torque converter just for the little car and the low hp
sure helps to keep it on the ball for launch!!

that day at the drags I killed 2 302 stangs and a built late model bug that was built and turbo..
    lol!!
    fun days!!
yea this summer it will be back out..
just too loud unless you get lucky with the cops..
    most have not seen them..
so they just stop me to see what the heck it is!!

This is the bottom side of my firebird. Full 4 link suspension with sway bars. Rear tires are 18×12 with 335x35x18 tires. No wheel hop for this bad boy. And it stops and turns.

Detroit Speed makes all these components.

I had a stock 65 fairlane 289 271hp in HS that my brother crashed for me. I love the looks of the old cars but they handle like crap.

To this day there is not a better sound then a good set of headers and exhaust, that ping coming off the headers and deep deep exhaust sound, and the roll of a good cam.

Back in the late 60s and early 70s Chrysler products had the best sounding stock exhaust out there.

I built my 56 Chevy 2 door hardtop from the ground up in the early 70s.
Used to treasure the low buck tips in Car Craft every month.
Bored and blueprinted the 350 30 over 357 cid
crane cam, schieffer clutch, weiand 360 manifold, huge modified Holly
with maxed out accelerator pumps on primaries and secondaries,
80 CCs raw gas and no bog whatsoever, electric fuel pump,
fiberglass fan, cool can, hookers, big pipes and “mufflers”.
built to Smokey Yunick Hot Rod magazines specs
    idled rough at 1300 rpms
4 speed 411 gears, traction bars dialed in.
Hurst short shift 4 speed. Ash tray aluminum mags,
stipped all the metal panels in the body, aluminum bar for a front bumper.
2 batteries in the right side trunk, 90/10s up front,
The interior was black naugahyde and vanilla crushed velvet grain matched over the roof panels in the stock black and white configuration sewed by my sister.
Installed high back buckets and back seat from a hemi cuda.
Exterior was classic copper, a metallic brown.
Used to extend the front suspension off the line and pull 4 inches of daylight when you power shifted second with street tires.
    Awesome street racer.

    Memories,
    and then it hits you,
spent more time under it than in it.

Anyone driven or riden in a new Corvette? That would be a blast to drive. Technology to get crazy performance out of these new efficient motors is amazing. This is my favorite car to drive to date. Zero to 60 in 3.3 seconds and the 1/4 in 11.7 with a 5 cylinder engine. 28 mpg on the highway and handles really well too.

BIL recently took delivery of one. I have yet to see it. He’s a car nut, I live vicariously through him. Ferrari, GT40 and Maserati also in his garage stalls. He had to put a lift in one stall to accommodate the Corvette. Insanely jealous…

I started with 3 55 Chevys that I built from scratch, all built up 327/375 hp. Of coarse HP was a whole different animal than today’s ratings. Then in 69 I bought a 67 Chevelle SS 396 that was the second car in Minnesota with House of Kolor Brandywine Candy Apple on it. Not much motor work but a good runner and drop dead gorgeous. I paid $2700 for it. Bad part was I passed on a triple black Yanko Camaro because I could not come up with $3500 that the guy wanted. DAMN! I just remembered those gold tipped spark plugs that the high compression 327s used to eat. We had Donneybrook, later BIR, to play at here. Great fun. In those days a 12 sec 1/4 mile was fast! I always got a kick out of the times the blowhards claimed their cars ran but never touched a real drag strip.

Not a muscle car, my 57 Tbird. Can’t wait to get her out on the backroads up here!

I had a 1972 Chevelle SS back in the day that’d I’d love to have now.

For me those good old days were almost 50 years ago. In those days I was buying short blocks and building engines but times have sure changed, I had to ask at O’Reilly auto parts the other day what kind of brake fluid I needed for my truck. I felt kind of stupid.

Love the cars but just couldn’t own one, other than going to shows or the local meet on Friday night what do you do with them? Go do the store and park in the back forty and some tool jams in beside you for no reason (other than he is a tool). My buddy buils them and then sells them, he had a rag top GTO that won tons of awards but won’t sell any of his stuff to friends. I do get all tingly when i see an old muscle car. Like when i climbed the rope i gym class.
