Mud vs gravel

Heading to the pond this weekend and have always fished the gravel because i have a place on the south end. Have never open water fished the mud and have always wanted to try it but I’m trying to justify pulling the boat out of the water and heading to garrison. I’m not expecting it to be as good as a few weeks ago but hoping to find some. Plan is to pull spinners, lindys and bobber. Any input on mud vs gravel is appreciated

I’m on the south end and usually fish the gravel but it just has not been productive this year for me for some reason. I still leave the Cove area and it’s about a 7 mile boat ride to 7-mile or 9-mile flats which really is not bad on a decent day.

If conditions are good I’d just make the run. Honestly, it’s like a 15 minute boat ride.

    I agree with Francis K.

I’m on the NE side, it’s like a 5-6 mile ride to the nearest flat. I think it’s worth the experience and you’ll get more comfortable with each trip.

We’ll be out on the mud this weekend…

I will also be out on the mud tomorrow. Plan is to pull bottom bouncers and spinners and then bobber fish if/when we find a pod of fish.

Don’t forget the lead core. My parents have been using that since the heat wave and it has been the most productive strategy.

I haven’t left the shallow rocks to fish either gravel or mud yet because I haven’t had to, but I agree it’s not a bad boat ride to the mud. I’d pull the boat and launch on the north end of it was really windy, but they are calling for light winds this weekend. I might just have to make a trip to the mud myself this weekend for the fun of it.

Thanks for the replies. Don’t have the nicest boat so I’m gonna trailer it to the west side. Any access you would recommend? I’ve been told it’s worth paying the $10 to go out of terry’s versus the public launch. But i will be there early enough to get a parking spot

I’m seeing regular reports of break ins at the west side public ramps. Smash and grabs have been more and more common. Don’t leave anything visible in your ride.
