    From Kyle Steinfeldt

Reaching out to all of you for prayers tonight for my good friend Tommy Skarlis & his family. Tommy & I were bowhunting this afternoon when he fell from his deer stand. He was life flighted to LaCrosse where we are still awaiting test results. Fortunately, he is in good spirits and does have movement of his limbs but he suffered a broken neck that will require emergency surgery. Thanks to the emergency personal, first responders, fire dept. and law enforcement he is in good hands now and we are all feeling very blessed that he was not paralyzed or worse. God is good! Thanks for the prayers everyone!

Terrible news. Like drownings you wonder how they keep happening. Climbing around in hunting gear with a gun is looking for trouble in my opinion. But,accidents do happen.

Thoughts and prayers to Tommy and his family. He seems like one of the good guys. Praying for a full and complete recovery.

Keep your head up, we are pulling for you!! waytogo

Best of luck for quick and full recovery. Listen to the doctors and use the same dedication for your recovery that you use for fishing!

    Update from
    Kyle Steinfeldt

Just a quick update for everyone: We Just got a very optimistic report from the surgeon that will be performing Tommy’s surgery (edit: this morning) tomorrow morning. Surgery will include both re-aligning the vertebrae and strengthing it with metal. They are confident it will relieve him of his nerve pain he’s been enduring over the last day since the accident and are hopeful for what sounds like will be a full recovery. “You’ll be fishing in no time,” were welcome words for us to hear come out of the surgeon’s mouth! Keep the prayers coming!

Best of Luck Tommy…after reading the post about your accident I purchased a tree stand harness in town this afternoon. My wife thought that it looked like parachute harness.

I’m glad to hear of the good progress and prognosis. I had this happen to a friend of mine a few years ago, while we were moving stands in the middle of a swamp during the summer. After finally getting the first responders in there, many of whom were volunteers, we carried him out on a backboard to the waiting medical chopper. Anyway, to keep this short, he made a complete recovery – except for a metal bracket installed to hold his wrist together. He was actually able to get back hunting that fall by cutting a notch in his cast so he could hold his bow.
The emergency room surgeon said that 50% of people who ball 20′ will die.
I only share this story to hopefully provide some positive encouragement to Mr. Skarlis that you can make a full recovery after this frightening event. And thank God for emergency crews and medical folks we have these day. GOOD LUCK!

Do-It molds had a get-together last Thursday and Friday, Tommy was at the dinner on Thursday evening and brought his usual good humor and wit with him. He’s come a long way but has some paralysis in one vocal cord yet that limits his speech and he tires after an hour or so of talking but he did do a seminar in Cedar Rapids on Friday. His body movement is still not up to snuff but he is making headway all the time. He’s full of determination and everyone there was happy he could join us. He’ll be back, just going to take time.

Tom Skarlis must be doing ok from his accident. I see he is going to be at the outdoor and boat show down here in the Quad Cities. Glad to see that he doing ok. Years ago he talk to me and my son at the time for sometimes. Very useful information from him.
