mounting high speed and sidescan duecers (humminbird)

So I want to add the high speed transducer along with the sidescan on my lund this spring. Tried running with just the sidescan last year and didn’t work so well for keeping bottom in the ‘normal’ sonar while on plane. I attached a picture of the bracket that is on the back and have a couple questions for the ido wisdom.

    1. The correct way would be to move the sidescan to my left finger and high speed to my right correct? (So sidescan is the lower one)

    2. As long as the sidescan is lower than the high speed it could be up higher on the transom couldn’t it ( for less drag)?

    3. Is there any potential issue with having the sidescan closer to the motor?

    Thanks guys

This is the way I rigged mine. Solved all my past issues. I’ve been digging for after pics of my actual mount and seem to come up empty. I got pics of the old mounting but that will not help. mine is not a through hull ducer, it is transom mounted on my Lund.

Side scan is lower than speed. Think about plugging the gap between your SI ducer and the bracket to eliminate the rooster tailing it will cause. The newer ones came with a rubber insert bushing/plug.

My lund pro v is set up just like you are talking about doing, with the SI ducer lower than the standard ducer.

    Denny,

Could you take a photo or tell me more about the plug, that rooster drives me nuts even with the SI ducer up relatively hight I still get it. I was thinkign about putting a piece of aluminum over it to knock it down, but a plug sounds much easier.

Cut a piece of styrofoam and stuff it in the gap and wrap it with electrical tape. Solved my r-tail problem.

Like Gregg ^^^ says anything to fill the void and to secure it.

The transducer needs to be raised up until the center seam on the left side is aligned with the bottom of the hull.

You also need to tip the back of the transducer down at least a 1/4″. Look at the transducer mounting instructions. If you mount it correctly it should work just fine at high speeds.

These changes should greatly reduce the rooster tail you are experiencing.

    Elk,
My SI ducer is about 1/2″ above the hull line at the transom and it still throws a rooster. My regular ducer is centered on the hill and works ok at speeds under about 30 mph. I have seen the si ducers mounted 6-8″ above the hull line at the transom and they still work at 5 mph and less with no roosters. I just don’t want new holes outside of my transducer board.

    Gregg,
Great idea with the tape and foam, was just thinking they might make a quick fix. Looks like they make a rubber piece for smaller bird ducers but couldn’t find one for the larger si ducer pictured above. I have some scrap rubber from a mud flap and will zip tie that in place.

    He is correct!
There is NO PLUG on a full out HDSI XDCR, only a cSI (compact) XDCR.

NO issue getting closer to motor as long as you have a bubble free water stream to have the XDCR in.

This is how I mounted mine to eliminate rooster tail.
It also functions at high speed when set this low.
I do not have a “high speed” transducer installed.

I do use this spring loaded mounting system
    to protect the transducer and
that also has the gap filler for the rooster tail.
