Mounting Helix 10 on 2018 Impact Sport Consol

Not an easy task but this is how I did it. The impact has very little room on the consol. The challenge with a larger unit like the Helix 10 is to have it back enough not to interfere with steering, low enough to see out the windshield, and high enough not to block access to dash switches, gauges etc. Before I drilled any holes I tried a ram swing arm mount and a ram 2.5 ball short arm by mounting them on my unit and holding them in place trying to adjust to fit. The 2.5 ram made for the Helix 10 would work if you don’t mind a major blocking of the windshield. After going through this I decided I’d need to buy a piece of stainless and have someone bend it for me to make a bracket. At some point it dawned on me that maybe I could buy a pair of stainless steel “L” brackets instead. Online I found 4″ brackets that are 7/8 wide and about 1/8 thick with two holes in each leg. The cost was about $9.00 plus frt. I mounted with the horizontal legs toward the windshield. I borrowed a small right angle driver and bought a short drill bit to drill the dash close to the windshield. I spaced them apart to use the top holes in the bracket but had to drill one more hole in each to match the Helix cradle. The mount is pretty rigid but the cord collecter is close to the dash so I put a foam pad there as insurance. Hope this helps someone else.

Was a big fan of the crossover online, then crawled around in every model and the impact sport is now the fav. Funny how they leave no room for any electronics in any of these fishing boats nowadays. Baffling really, guys gonna spend $30k+ in a boat he’s gonna have a nice depthfinder or two on it.

    Good info, thanks for sharing.

    Got any pics?

Problem is everyone wants that 55″ wide screen..lol. That makes for tuff mounting.

It was either the large screen or wear the perscription lenses all day. Turned seventy last week and still not used to wearing anything but regular sun glasses outside for fishing and hunting. Can tell that won’t last much longer. Probably a lot of baby boomers out there like me buying larger screen units.

Do you have pictures? I had a different style ram mount out in and my 1197 I transferred over seems to fit to my liking but I could see how it could block some of my vision.

gunsmith89, will try to post pictures next day or two. My unit is mounted just above switches and to right of first gauge. The problem I had with most mounts is to lower the unit, it moved too far forward or raised like yours it blocks a lot of the windshield. I used the “L” brackets but a short Cisco mount might work if it will pivot 90 degrees forward without moving the unit too far forward like a ram product.

I just picked up my new Impact. I also was not happy with the amount of space for a Helix so I got a 7 inch one with a short RAM Mount. Big enough for me.
Also noticed the amount of “cheap” plastic in the steering wheel area. The so-called smartphone holder is a joke. Way to small for most phones.
Also I did not add a “tilt” steering wheel. I not have to live with loud squeek noise (plastic against plastic) at the base of the wheel. Anyone else notice this?.

Just got my Lund impact two weeks ago, thinking on putting a helix 7 in it but HOW? Do you know if Ram makes a mount that will fit on the mount on the dash, such an unusual mount, and if there is will it fit the helix 7 without interfering with the windshield? what were they thinking when the placed the mount so close to the windshield?

Update on my install. My helix 10 did bounce a little on the two angle brackets and the cable collector attachment on the back would occasionly bump the dash and cause a loss of power to the unit. To cure this I added another set of brackets facing forward to stiffen it up and I drilled two new holes in the helix mount to raise the unit one inch so the cable collector will no longer contact the dash. So far this looks like the final tweek.

Brian, are you sure you’re not looking at the cable cubby? There was no mount factory installed from Lund, unless your dealer put something there. there is a hole for cabling to run through, and that is as close to the windshield as possible to prevent rain ingress into the dash. You should be drilling and placing your own mount so it is somewhere you feel comfortable with

Curious when you guys are mounting these graphs to the dash, are you guys putting backing on the underside? I’ve got an Impact on order but I’m not sure how thick that plastic dash is. I assume it is thick enough to hold.

    TIA

I never did on my impact and did not have any issues. I did sell the boat last year but everything seemed like it was solid.

I have a Lund Impact (1775) and I have a Humminbird Helix 10 mounted on the dash. The mount I used is the Ram – size D mount 2.25 ball. I was able to purchase via Cabela’s. I also have a Helix 7 mounted on the bow,

Mine is almost the same as Guthook’s. 12″ on dash 9″ on bow. Same Ram size. There is no backing on my dash mount – the dealer did it. HAve not had any problems to date and LOTS of pounding on big water. WEre I to do it myself I would fashion as large a backing as I could fit just for the extra piece of mind. It IS plastic after all.

Also, the 12″ is retty big on my dash. I have the 1775 too. Not much room between where you can mount it and the windshield. Make sure to leave a smuch space as possible as it will rub the glass and impact how much adjusting you can do. In hindsight I would have put the 12″ on the bow for that reason. It does a fine job of partially blocking your view.
Some shots but maybe helpful. My dash mount is tight. Less than 1/2″ between windshiled
