Mounting a 2nd Graph in the boat

I have a 2008 Alumacraft Dominator 165 Sport and late last season my HB 597HD DI started having issues with displaying the 2D sonar (down imaging and the chart/mapping worked fine, the sonar display would be intermittent). I ended up getting a Helix 7 w/ side imaging over the winter. I want to keep the 597 in the boat as my Lakemaster chips are the SD card version, not the new Micro SD cards that the new units take and I’d rather not buy new cards for the states I fish plus I dont want to lose my waypoints until I can mark them on the new unit.

I’m trying to figure out a good way to mount the Helix 7. The dash is smaller and the only way I would be able to mount both units there would be to have both on some type of mount like a RAM. If I did that, I would mount a piece of aluminum or a transducer mounting board on the dash, then attach the RAM mount balls, but even then I think it would be tight.

Looking at it tonight, I was thinking about mounting the Helix 7 on the gunnel since I have the wider gunnels. I can still adjust the mount so that most of the Helix 7 would be behind the windshield and I would figure out a way to dress the cables and make it a clean looking install. Does anyone see a better way or a reason not to mount the Helix 7 on the gunnel by the windshield?

I don’t know why it wouldn’t work. Make sure it’s not going to be in the way of your throttle. Seems like you might bang your arm off it in that position.

I drive in the standing position all the time and it seems like maybe reaching down for the throttle might be an issue.

I ended up mounting it there last night and think its going to work pretty good. No issues with the throttle and it stays out of the way of the travel cover as well. Now to just add the power and transducer cables. I have a couple different ideas for dressing the cables and making it look decent, we’ll see how it turns out
